Hello 7th Grade Families,
Progress Reports: Progress report grades are entered on Tuesday, September 22nd for all classes. Students will be given their progress reports to take home on Thursday, September 24th.
No School: There is no school for students on Friday, September 25th.
Curriculum Night Presentation: If you missed Curriculum Night, here is the information.
Handbook Acknowledgment: All students received the handbook acknowledgement form last week. Please review the information and return the signed form as soon as possible.
PE Uniforms: Starting October 1st, students must wear their official PE uniform during Physical Education classes. If a student is missing their uniform after this date, school staff will call home so a family member can bring the required clothing. Until official gym uniforms arrive, Mr. Luu has instructed all students to wear general athletic gear to class. 7th Grade has PE on Wednesday. More information on ordering, pricing, and pick-up is available through the order form.
STEM After School Program: We have partnered with Rush Education and the Career Hub to offer a FREE Human Body Science after-school program for 6th-8th grade students at Orozco! If interested, please review the details and register your student. The program begins on September 22nd and will run from 3:00-4:30pm on Tuesdays.
Latin Days at St. Ignatius: On October 17th from 8:30am-2:00pm, students are invited to attend Latin Days, an interactive event celebrating the rich tradition of Latin and Greek at Saint Ignatius College Prep; registration is required. Through games, activities, and hands-on learning, participants will explore the fascinating world of the ancient Greeks and Romans while discovering how the study of the classics continues to shape a Jesuit education today.
School Fees: Please pay the $100 school fee by going to the Main Office with cash between 8:10am and 2:45pm or through Parent Portal.
Adding an Additional Recipient to the Newsletter: The newsletter is currently sent to the first contact listed for each student in the CPS Aspen Parent Portal. If you would like to add another family member from your household to receive the weekly newsletter, please fill out this form so they can be included in future emails.

Informes de Progreso: Las calificaciones para los informes de progreso de todas las clases se registrarán el Martes 22 de Septiembre. Los estudiantes recibirán sus informes de progreso para llevarlos a casa el Jueves 24 de Septiembre.

Acuse de Recibo del Manual: Todos los estudiantes recibieron el formulario de acuse de recibo del manual la semana pasada. Por favor, revisen la información y devuelvan el formulario firmado lo antes posible.
Uniformes de Educación Física: A partir del 1 de Octubre, los estudiantes deberán llevar su uniforme oficial de Educación Física durante las clases de esta asignatura. Si un estudiante no lleva el uniforme después de esa fecha, el personal de la escuela llamará a casa para que un familiar pueda traer la ropa requerida. Hasta que lleguen los uniformes oficiales, el Sr. Luu ha indicado a todos los estudiantes que vistan ropa deportiva habitual para la clase. Los estudiantes de 7mo grado tienen educación física el Miércoles. En el formulario de pedido encontrará más información sobre cómo realizar el pedido, los precios y la recogida.

Jornadas de Latín en St. Ignatius: El 17 de Octubre, de 8:30am-2:00pm, se invita a los estudiantes a participar en las Jornadas de Latín, un evento interactivo que celebra la rica tradición del latín y el griego en Saint Ignatius College Prep; es necesario inscribirse. This week students will continue their social emotional learning project. They will work on the different phases of the group components: community mindset map, group growth formula, sharp community goal, 4-week action roadmap, group pivot & alliance protocol, and assemble & present your venture. To support your student’s learning at home, ask them about how they collaborated with their peers to create a community mindset map.
Esta semana, los estudiantes continuarán con su proyecto de aprendizaje socioemocional. Trabajarán en las distintas fases de los componentes grupales: mapa de mentalidad comunitaria, fórmula de crecimiento grupal, objetivo comunitario preciso, hoja de ruta de acción para cuatro semanas, protocolo de cambio de rumbo y alianzas, y montaje y presentación del proyecto. Para apoyar el aprendizaje de su hijo en casa, pregúntele cómo colaboró con sus compañeros para crear el mapa de mentalidad comunitaria.

This week, we will finish work with the first half of The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros with a graded discussion and a short RACES response on Monday. Then, we will begin the rest of the novel on Tuesday by reviewing tone in literature and another example of a close reading. Students will have the reminder of the week to read, annotate, and engage with the novel during class time. At home, you can support your student by asking them to describe a room in the house, favorite spot, or family memory using a specific tone (like nostalgic, sarcastic, or cozy), and then trying to guess the tone they were going for. Then, have them give the same description again with a different tone, and ask them to explain the changes they made between the two tones.
Esta semana concluiremos el trabajo con la primera mitad de *La casa en Mango Street* (de Sandra Cisneros) mediante una discusión evaluada y una breve respuesta siguiendo el método RACES el lunes. El martes iniciaremos la segunda parte de la novela repasando el concepto de tono literario y analizando otro ejemplo de lectura detallada. Los estudiantes dispondrán del resto de la semana para leer, anotar y trabajar con la novela durante el horario de clase. En casa, puede apoyar a su hijo pidiéndole que describa una habitación de la casa, su lugar favorito o un recuerdo familiar utilizando un tono específico (como nostálgico, sarcástico o acogedor) e intentando usted adivinar qué tono quiso transmitir. Luego, pídale que repita la descripción con un tono diferente y que explique los cambios realizados entre ambas versiones.

This week we were transforming different figures like one line or parallel lines to see how they are affected. We learned to follow the same rules as other shapes during rigid transformations. We practiced translating, rotating and reflecting from parts of the original figure. Next we began transferring measurements of side lengths and angles of our transformed images after translations, rotations and reflections. Based on similar figures we are deciding whether they are congruent. We will continue this through next week and add relationships between two parallel lines and a transversal and have a quiz at the end of the week. Look ahead at measuring angles from intersecting lines.
Esta semana estuvimos transformando formas como líneas individuales o paralelas para examinar sus variaciones. Aprendimos a emplear las mismas reglas de transformaciones rígidas en diversas figuras. Realizamos ejercicios de traslación, rotación y reflexión desde partes de la imagen original. Posteriormente, transferimos magnitudes de lados y ángulos a las figuras resultantes tras rotar, reflejar y trasladar. Mediante la comparación de formas, determinamos si existe congruencia. Continuaremos la siguiente semana examinando la relación entre rectas paralelas cortadas por una transversal, con una prueba al cerrar la semana. Exploren de antemano la medición de ángulos formados por rectas secantes.

We are wrapping up our first unit. This week, students will complete a Study Guide for HW, it is due Friday morning. Students will also complete their end of unit project Monday-Thursday in class and take their Unit Test on Friday. In this project students will explore how Native Americans shape their own identities by investigating figures like Sitting Bull or communities like the Navajo Nation across different historical eras. They will analyze primary sources from archives like the Library of Congress to examine perspective, bias, and historical continuity over time. To showcase their learning, students will produce a creative final project—such as a symbolic artwork, interactive timeline, or identity map—and reflect on what identity means in America today.
Estamos concluyendo nuestra primera unidad. Esta semana, los estudiantes completarán una guía de estudio como tarea; la fecha límite de entrega es el Viernes por la mañana. Asimismo, los estudiantes realizarán su proyecto de fin de unidad en clase, de Lunes a Jueves, y presentarán el examen de la unidad el Viernes. En este proyecto, los estudiantes explorarán cómo los nativos americanos moldean sus propias identidades mediante el estudio de figuras como Toro Sentado o comunidades como la Nación Navajo a lo largo de distintas épocas históricas. This week students will investigate how fossils support Wegener’s theory of Continental Drift. They will be able to summarize Wegener’s research, and how he came to his conclusions and apply plate boundary research to a specific landformation. To do this they will analyze text to summarize Wegener’s findings about plate tectonics and the theory of Continental Drift, and explain how plate tectonics resulted in the Hawaiian islands and their formation of volcanoes. To support your student’s learning at home, ask them about the evidence we have of how the continents were once joined, and what Wegener’s discoveries were to determine how the continents moved.
Esta semana, los estudiantes investigarán cómo los fósiles respaldan la teoría de la deriva continental de Wegener. Podrán resumir la investigación de Wegener y explicar cómo llegó a sus conclusiones, además de aplicar los conocimientos sobre los límites de placas a una formación geográfica específica.
