Christina Romo (Social Worker)
My name is Christina Romo and I have the privilege of being the school social worker at MAS. This is my second year servicing the students in this school and I am so happy to be here. My goal is to make sure students have access to resources that will benefit them in school and in their community. I was born and raised in Chicago. I received my Bachelor's in Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and my Master's in Social Work from Dominican University. When I am not 'social-working', you can find me traveling, reading, learning how to cook, and spoiling my pups. MAS Pride all the way!
Lissette Chavez (Case Manager)
Born and raised in Chicago Public Schools. I received my Bachelors in Special education from Northern Illinois and Masters in Educational Leadership from Argosy University. I have worked for Chicago Public Schools for 21 years. I enjoy working in High School with our creative, intelligent and persevering youth. It is my first year at MAS and am happy to join in MAS pride/MAS orgullo!
Xavier Diaz (College & Career Coach)
Hi! I'm Xavier Diaz, the College & Career Coach at MAS. My role is to support students and their families in choosing the best pathway to transition into after high school. I have been servicing the MAS campus for a year now. In my time at MAS, my favorite part has been seeing the strong community built by students with each other.
Liza Lopez (Support Staff)
I have been at M.A.S since January of 2020 and my daily tasks consist of post-secondary and office support. I grew up in the Little Village neighborhood so working with students who are where I once was is very rewarding. My goal is to build strong relationships with students and families so that they know how important their success is. I would love to see every student graduate with a plan they are excited about.
Grace Leanos(Finacial Clerk)
My name is Graciela Leanos and I have the privilege of working at MAS since 2010, not only as a clerk and business clerk but as a person who has seen the students grow. As someone who is behind the scenes I have learned from staff and students that we are all one family-unit and love is very important because it keeps us growing through challenges and good times. I do miss inputting and looking for Buses for field trips, students walking in office saying Hi with their big smiles, and I miss the rapping Ms. Camacho and I learned to sing to some students when they wouldn’t go to class. I miss students coming down for copies, I miss seeing teachers walk in office for coffee/tea. I miss students telling me if I am ok because I have no make up. I appreciate the teachers who take such living action towards a student in need or towards an incident. This is MAS.
Nancy Camacho (Clerk)
I’ve been working at Multicultural for the past 7 years. Here at MAS I greet and direct students, parents, and visitors to appropriate staff. Provide tardy passes to late arrivals. I receive parent phone calls & inquiries from other callers. I enter and file any sick notes turned in. I call the homes of students who are absent. I work with students, teachers & staff in order to correct any attendance errors there may be. Make sure teacher’s attendance is submitted in a timely fashion. Keep track of attendance percentages and reach out to families when attendance is low. Welcome and enroll any new students. I communicate closely with our preferred subs to ensure teacher coverage. I enter field trips, collect payments and provide uniforms to students. I provide our students with toiletries or Band-Aids & first aid assistance as needed. I serve as student in temporary living situations liaison (STLS). My favorite part of working at MAS is assisting and communicating with parents and getting to know the students and families. Together we can ensure our students have a successful high school experience. We are here to serve you, feel free to reach out to us with any questions, comments, and concerns.
Yesenia Zaragoza
(Dean of Climate & Culture)
Product of CPS, it was because of my fifth grade teacher that I knew whatever I did in life I knew it was to inspire kids to reach their full potential. I have been at MAS since April 2019 and have loved getting to know all the students, getting to know the staff, and just being able to be apart of everything I can in our school. I graduated from Northern Illinois University with my B.A. in Sociology this past May. I also just had my first baby this past March.
You can find me in the front office with Ms. Camacho, answering calls, and creating new ideas to bring to MAS. I am the Yearbook sponsor for MAS and have ran the Mentor program for young women.
