English Day 2025
English Day 2025
This year’s English Day celebrated the inspiring theme “Character Counts.” Story Jungle captivated students with storytelling sessions that highlighted important values such as gratitude, resilience, empathy… Building on these stories, students participated in meaningful classroom activities designed to deepen their understanding of these traits.
The excitement continued with interactive booth games and engaging activities in the hall, all centred around four key themes of Resilience, Empowerment, Appreciation, and Delight. It was a joyful day of learning and growth, reminding us all that strong character truly matters.
Storytelling sessions
Story Jungle is an English education company that helps kindergartens, primary, and secondary schools in Hong Kong with reading programs.
They came to our school to conduct storytelling sessions for each year level teaching them important values through activities and games. Each year level also designed their own board with meaningful messages.
P1 The Stray Dog
This is about a family who rescues and adopts a lost little dog. Through this story our students learnt about caring for others.
P2 The Buddy Bench
Not all children find it easy to find someone to play with. The solution? A buddy bench! Through this story our students learnt about empathy.
P3 The Empty Pot
To become the next emperor, Ping was tasked with growing a plant. Despite months of hard work, it barely grew. This story taught our students the importance of diligence.
P4 Salt in His Shoes
This book is about Michael Jordan's journey to becoming a basketball player. It focuses on the challenges he had to overcome and taught our students about resilience.
P5 Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
In Chewandswallow food and drinks conveniently fall from the sky. Isn't that amazing? Well, not if it's flooding the town. Through this story our students learnt about responsibility.
P6 Thank You, Mr. Falker
This story is about a girl who struggles with dyslexia. Luckily, she finds a supportive teacher called Mr. Falker. It taught our students about gratitude and how we can express it.
Classroom activities
In the classroom, our students expanded their understanding of the stories through engaging activities and worksheets.
Booth games
We had a fantastic time at the playground, where we set up eight exciting booth games for our students to enjoy! Some booth games were linked to four themes: resilience, empowerment, appreciation and delight. Others were related to animals.
Hall activities
Ms. Jolenka and Mr. Alex were waiting for the students in the hall. Through videos and games, they further explored the four themes: resilience, empowerment, appreciation and delight.
The students from P1 to P4 watched some videos linked to the 4 themes. After watching, there were several activities to reinforce their understanding of the scenes and the themes, including a quiz, bingo game, song etc.
Similarly, students in P5 and P6 watched videos connected to the same themes. We discussed the themes in depth, sang a song, and organised a quiz to check their understanding of the scenes and themes.
