Nebraska Rural Community Schools Association: Due Feb. 7th

NRCSA will award a total of 16 $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors from NRCSA member schools.

2020 Gary Fisher Fine Arts Scholarship: forms available at www.nrcsa.net

For those students who excel in fine arts and are planning to major in fine arts in college. Only one femail and one male application per school will be accepted for the NRCSA Schoarships. Only one application per school will be accepted for the Gary Fischer Fine Arts Scholarship. Applications for all scholarships must be forwarded by the school district.

Please submit applications to Mrs. Smith by Feb. 1st.

Cozad High School Pep Club: Due March 1st.

Pep Club Scholarship(s) will be awarded at the Pep Club Banquet and the annual Honors Convocation. Any senior who is currently a member of Cozad High School Pep Club and has met the following requirements is eligible:

  • Member as a Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior
  • Member who has been in Good Standing or has lettered all four years
  • Member who is planning on attending post-secondary schooling

The scholarship money may not be used to pay for the student’s first semester of school but will be awarded at the beginning of the second semester.

  • The student must be a full-time student (at least 12 credit hours).
  • Bring your college transcript from the first semester and proof of enrollment for second semester to the high school and then you will be given the scholarship money.
  • The student must maintain a 2.5 average during the first semester of college in order to receive the scholarship payment.

Orthman Scholarship: Deadline March 30.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The student must be of good moral character and, in general, be a credit to their community and this scholarship. The applicants will be judged on their scholastic record, extra-curricular, and community activities. Consideration will also be given to the financial need of the individual, but will not be of prime importance.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Complete the attached application and submit it to the Orthman Manufacturing, c/o Becky Crawford, Human Resource Department along with three personal recommendation forms. Two are to be completed by teachers and the third by any other person designated by you outside school and family. A recent photograph should be submitted with this application. The deadline for submitting the application is March 30, 2020, A decision will be made by April 22, 2020.

PEO Scholarhip: Deadline April 15th

Chapter CO of P.E.O. will offer (1) $300 one-year scholarship to a senior girl for educational assistance for further education, preferably to attend Cottey College (P.E.O. supported college at Nevada, Missouri) or to any school of applicant’s choice.

1. Be a Cozad High School senior girl with sufficient credits to enter a school of higher learning.

2. Sign up with the Cozad High School Guidance Counselor for a number to designate essay instead of using applicant’s name. This ensures anonymity and lack of bias for the Scholarship Committee.

3. Return the P.E.O. Chapter CO Scholarship application and essay to Cozad High School Guidance Counselor by April 15.

4. Notify the Scholarship Committee of Chapter CO, P.E.O. by December 20 prior to her second semester if she plans to use the award and furnish a copy of transcript from first semester and classes registered for second semester. If the winner cannot use the scholarship or fails to notify to Scholarship Committee of Chapter CO, P.E.O., the award will be given to an alternate under the same conditions.

Nebraskans of World War II Scholarship: Deadline January 31st, 2020

Three $2,000 scholarships and three $500 scholarships will be awarded to students that are senior status, have a GPA of 3.5 or higher, and plan to attend a four year college/univeristy or an accredited post-secondary training institution.

Alpha Delta Kappa Scholarship: Deadline April 1st.

Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority is an honorary for women in education. Phi Chapter, composed of members from Dawson and Gosper counties in Nebraska, presents a $500 scholarship each year to a worthy student pursuing a post-secondary degree in education.

Qualifications:

Applicants may be male or female pursuing a post-secondary degree, which must be in education. The choice of the recipient will be based primarily on a desire for becoming a teacher.

Instructions to the Applicant:

  1. Fill out the application form attaching a transcript of your grades.
  2. Create a list of the activities that you participated in during high school and in the community (grades 9-12). Do not tell about your activities in narrative form; just list them telling the year that you participated in each activity using this form.
  3. Write a statement telling why you want to enter the field of teaching and what your long-range goals appear to be at this time. The goal statement is very important.
  4. Include three recommendations, two from high school faculty members and one from another adult, excluding relatives. Adhering to the requirements will weigh heavily in the evaluation process. Signatures are required.
  5. April 1st is the deadline for turning in the completed applications to the high school guidance counselor.

Cozad Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors Scholarship: April 1st

The Cozad Ambassadors in their continuing efforts to promote the community of Cozad would like to offer a scholarship to a graduating senior at Cozad High School. This scholarship would be open to any senior who plans to continue their education beyond high school in an accredited college, community college, tech school, or university. Preference will be given to students who have been employed in a business by a Chamber of Commerce Member. This scholarship will be payable upon proof of enrollment for second semester.

Cozad Education Association: Deadline April 1st

Children of C.E.A. members are eligible for this $250 scholarship.

If you meet this qualification, please return the following application (typed) to your counselor no later than April 1st.

Scholarship recipients will receive payment after a copy of their 1st semester grades and proof of enrollment for 2nd semester is presented to the C.E.A. treasurer. (Drop off in the High School Office: Attention: CEA Treasurer.)

Class of 1948 Scholarship: Deadline April 15th

Through the generous gifts by the class of 1948, a scholarship will be awarded each year to a graduating senior from Cozad High School. The scholarship varies depending upon the performance of the endowment. Preference will be given to those majoring in the education field.

Cozad Community Hospital Foundation: Deadline April 15

Students and parents must live in the Cozad Community Hospital District.

Student must be a sernior in good standing in an approved high school.

Student must be entering a medical field of study. Priority will be given those who would be generally employed in an area in a community hospital.

Scholarship will be payable upon receipt of proof of payment for 3rd semester fees.

Cozad Fire & Rescue Scholarship: Deadline April 15th

The Cozad Fire Department and Rescue Squad offers three scholarships in the amount of $500.00 each to Cozad High School Seniors furthering their education in an accredited trade school, college, or university. The selection of three winners and one alternate will be made by a committee of members of the Cozad Fire Department and Rescue Squad. Awards will be presented at the Cozad High School Honors Convocation. Funds will be dispersed upon enrollment of second semester.

Cozad's Jaycee Sholarship: Deadline April 15th

The Cozad Jaycees are a community service organization that would like to offer a scholarship to an outstanding local high school senior who will be continuing their education at any vo-tech, college, or university. The scholarship will be payable upon successful completion of one semester and continued enrollment in a school of higher learning. The Cozad Jaycees offer this scholarship as a continued commitment to the youth of this area.

Cozad Wrestling Club Scholarship: Deadline April 15th

To be eligible, applicants must have participated in CWC for a minimum of three years and been a member of the Cozad High School wrestling program for a minimum of three years. Scholarship recipients must meed one of the following requirements to receive the scholarship:

  • Maintain a minimum of 2.0 grade point average on 12 completed credit hours their initial freshman year semester: or
  • Maintain a 2.0 GPA average on 24 completed credit hours their initial freshman year.

Tom Arndt Elks Memorial Scholarship: Deadline April 15

The Tom Arndt Elks Memorial Scholarship will be given annually in memory of Tom

Arndt. Tom’s legacy is that of a tremendous work ethic and proof that through a

dedicated focus, one can achieve their goals. Tom supported many youth activities

in Cozad and this scholarship is the lasting legacy of that support. This scholarship

funded by the Tom Arndt family will be awarded annually through 2020. The

$1000 will be payable through The Cozad Elks Lodge to an individual attending an

accredited post-secondary institution. Consideration of character & financial need

shall determine the recipient. Completed application is due no later than April 15th

and may be returned to the high school guidance office. The student receiving the

Scholarship is required to submit a transcript of their first semester grades to

the Cozad Elks Lodge. At that time the Scholarship will be awarded.

Ervin & Grace Burkholder Foundation Scholarship: April 15th

The Ervin and Grace Burkholder Foundation and family, who have worked closely with the Cozad Community Scholastic Association, have graciously donated the monies for this four year scholarship. Priority will be given to those students attending a four year private colleges, CCSA awards will be taken into consideration for final selection. This is a $5,000 scholarship, with $1,250 being payable upon second semester enrollment each year for four years.

C-Club Scholarship: April 15

Selection for this scholarship will be based upon participation in school activities. The applicant shall be a letter winner and well rounded member of CHS.

Cozad Pepsi Cola Scholarship: Due April 15th

In order to be considered eligible for this scholarship a student must have earned a varsity athletic letter as a senior and be in at least one other activity that is non-sport related (speech, drama, chorus, band, or an organization).

Jim Heller Memorial Scholarship: Due April 15th

This scholarship has been established through the Cozad City Schools Foundation and will be given to a CHS graduating senior. Please complete the application and return to the high school counselor by April 15th.

Hi-Grain Feedlot Scholarship: Due April 15th

Hi-Gain Feedlot a commercial cattle feeding business located in Cozad and the surrounding area would like to offer 2 scholarships to local high school seniors who will be continuing their education at any Technical/Vocational school, college, or university. The scholarship will be payable upon second semester enrollment. Hi-Gain Feedlot, its owners, and employees would like the scholarship serve as an example of their commitment to the people of this area. One $1000 scholarship will be given to a senior majoring in an agricultural related field and one $1000 scholarship will be given to a senior majoring in a non-agricultural field.

Homestead Bank Scholarship: Due April 15th

This scholarship is open to any student from Cozad High School who will graduate this year and plans to enter a Nebraska State College, University, or Community College. Preference will be given to those entering the business field. The offering of these two $1000 scholarships is a demonstration of Homestead Bank’s commitment to our community.

Ladies Auxiliary to eh V.F.W. post #890 Scholarship: Due April 1st

This $200.00 scholarship will be presented to a senior who will be continuing their education at any vo-tech school, college, or university. The scholarship will be payable upon successful completion of one semester and continued enrollment in a school for higher learning.

The applicant must be a child, grandchild, or sibling of someone who is or has served in the armed forces.

Maline Family Scholarship: Due April 15th.

Glendon, Don and Margaret Maline all graduated from Cozad City Schools. Glendon married Phyllis Whitefoot. Don wed Isabel Taylor and Margaret moved to Denver, married Hubert Harris and raised three sons. Glendon, Phyllis, Don and Isabel established their careers in Cozad. Their respective children, Betty Ann and Barbara, and Jim, Scott, Nancy and Susan, all graduated from the Cozad City Schools. In addition, several grandchildren hail Cozad as their alma mater.

Cozad City Schools has provided the educational foundation for the Maline family for generations. In appreciation, a $500 scholarship will be presented annually to a graduating senior who exhibits the broad interests represented by the Maline family, is involved in many aspects of the school and demonstrates financial need or has overcome adversity.

The project is sponsored by the Cozad Public Schools Foundation and has acknowledged these gifts with sincere appreciation.

Larry Love Memorial Ag Scholarship: Due April 1st

The Larry Love Memorial Ag Scholarship will be offered to a graduating senior from Cozad High School who will be attending a college or university and pursuing a degree in Agriculture or a closely related field. Applicants must have a high school 2.5 GPA as well as a 2.5 GPA for the first semester of college. This is a $500 scholarship award and will be payable to the recipient upon verification of the 1st semester 2.5 GPA and second semester enrollment of his/her freshman year. Applications are due to the address below by April 1st.

Larry Love, a life long-farmer/rancher lived Northwest of Cozad on a 4th generation farm. He graduated from Cozad High School with the class of 1958. Larry loved farming and all that it entailed. He always had a passion and appreciation for the beauty of nature that could be observed in his farming. Larry had a great love for animals and always took excellent care of his livestock. Larry would be proud to assist a younger generation individual to carry on his love for farming.

This Scholarship is worth $500.00 and is available to a high school graduate attending a business school, community college or trade school, with the intention of earning an Associate Degree.

Petals Garden Club Scholarship: Due April 15th

The Petals Garden Club is offering a $500.00 scholarship to an area qualifying senior who will be pursuing an education in Horticulture or a Horticulture Related Field. The scholarship is being offered to a qualified applicant from Cozad, Eustis/Farnam, or Gothenburg High Schools or area resident. The scholarship will be paid upon successful completion of 1 semester and continued enrollment at a Vo-Tech School, College, or University.

THE MARILYN AND DICK PETERSON “SECOND-MILE” VOLUNTEERISM SCHOLARSHIP: Due April 1st

The Marilyn and Dick Peterson “Second-Mile” Scholarship is based on the recipient’s contribution to volunteerism projects/causes that will better the community, the school and/or their place of worship. The scholarship criteria is based on the student’s willingness to go “above and beyond” what is expected of him/her. The information given and description of the project will be judged, as will the initiative and self-motivation of this person.

The Committee for the dispensation of The Marilyn and Dick Peterson Scholarship will present a $500 scholarship to a worthy student who will be pursuing a post-secondary, two-year specialized/Associate’s degree program or a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited technical school, private or tax supported college or university of the student’s choice.

The money will be awarded at the beginning of the recipient’s second-semester freshman year following his/her registration. If the recipient does not continue his/her college education the scholarship will then go to the alternate.

Cozad Rotary Scholarship: Due April 15th

THE COZAD ROTARY SCHOLARSHIP will be offered to any Cozad High School senior who will be continuing their education at any college or university. Preference will be given to someone entering the medical field. The scholarship will be payable upon second semester enrollment. The scholarship will be for $1,500.00. THE COZAD ROTARY offers this scholarship as an example of their commitment to the youth and people of this area.

Judy Smith Svajger Memorial Scholarship: Due April 15.

A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior at Cozad High School who plans to attend an accredited College or University. Judy Smith graduated in1962 from Cozad High School. She taught elementary education for several years. The selection committee will consider each applicant’s scholastic achievement, participation and leadership in school and community activities, educational goals, need and citizenship and moral character. The scholarship will be made directly to the College or University for the recipient at the start of the second semester following enrollment. Applicants should rank in upper 1/3 of class. Preference given to an education majors but is not limited to. Submit application to Guidance Counselor by April 15.

Juhl and Vera Smith Memorial Scholarship: Due April 15th.

Following their deaths, long-time Cozad residents Juhl and Vera Smith provided funding for (2) four-year college scholarships annually for Cozad graduating seniors. The funding is made possible from their gift to the Cozad Public Schools Foundation.

A scholarship committee will select honorees each year based on need, scholastic achievement and activities. Preference will be given for the selection of one male and one female graduate from the senior class each year. Each recipient will be awarded a scholarship up to $1500 per year for up to four years to the college of their choice.

--- Honorees must maintain a grade average of at least a 2.5 on a scale of 4 being the highest possible grade. Each scholarship will be awarded at the start of the second semester of each year following the submission of the recipients grade transcript to the scholarship committee, to be kept on file with the Cozad Public Schools Foundation.

Justin J. Duffy Memorial Scholarship: Due April 1st.

Justin Duffy graduated from Cozad High School in 1995. He attended MidPlains Community College and UNK. He graduated from UNK in 2000 with a degree in Criminal Justice. In 2007, he joined the U.S. Army and advanced through training to become a member of the 82nd Airborne Panther Team. In November 2008 he deployed to Iraq and was killed on June 2nd, 2009.

In conjunction with Justin’s interests, a $250 scholarship will be awarded to a Cozad High graduate who plans a major in Criminal Justice, Health Care, or ROTC. The scholarship will be made directly to the College or University for the recipient at the start of the second semester following enrollment.

Patsy Koch Johns Speech/Theatre Scholarship: Due April 15th

The Patsy Koch Johns Speech/Theatre Scholarship will be offered to a Cozad High School Senior who will be continuing their education at any college or university. Preference will be given to the study of Speech, Theatre, or English, or the education field. The scholarship will be payable upon second semester enrollment, and the amount of the scholarship will vary. Two scholarships may be awarded.

Patsy taught and directed the Cozad Speech Teams and to the Play Production Teams for 24 years. These teams won countless awards, bringing honors not only to the individual students, but to Cozad High School.

Tim Thramer Memorial Scholarship: Due April 15th.

This scholarship is given in honor of Tim Thramer who was a Pioneer sales representative in Cozad for 20 years. He loved volunteering his time to the youth and spent a lot of his time at sporting events. He was diagnosed with lymphoma in January of 2014 and lost his battle in October 2015. This memorial scholarship is worth $2000.00 and is available to a high school graduate planning to attend a four-year college or university, two year junior college, technical or vocational school with preference given, but not limited, to students studying agriculture, business or science. A minimum 3.00 GPA is required to apply. This scholarship will be awarded following first semester upon proof of enrollment for second semester and first semester grades.

Cozad United Way Scholarship: Due April 1st

The Cozad United Way Scholarship's purpose is to recognize the community service accomplishments of students in Cozad reflecting the mission and goals of the Cozad United Way. The scholarship amount will vary depending upon the number and quality of applicants. The mission statement of Cozad United Way is: to unite people and resources to build a stronger, healthier and more compassionate community.

Examples of community service that will be considered are: coaching little league sports, volunteering at the Cozad Hospital, Meadowlark Point or Golden Living Center, helping at the Cozad AfterZone, serving on a church board, National Honor Society, FBLA, FCCLA, Pep Band, Thespian and other school activities, and volunteer projects in the community such as helping with the United Way Campaign Fund Drive. (These are just examples.)

Jerry White Memorial Scholarship: Due April 1st.

  3. Demonstrate good sportsmanship
  4. Must be a varsity sport letter winner

Randy Koch Memorial Scholarship: Due April 1st

Randy was the Metal Shop Instructor at Cozad High School until 2015. He always wanted students in his class to value their hands on education. He also taught life skills and was proud of the work his students did, including making things for farmers, the Cozad High School sign and projects the students wanted to work on. This scholarship is in memory of Randy and he would have wanted a student who needed the finances to be able to go to college and pursue their dream.

2 scholarships in the amount of $500 will be awarded.

Applicants Must:

· Attend a 2 year college or Tech School

· Major in Metal Work, Auto-body, or Construction. Students interested in pursuing a teaching degree will also be considered.

· Write a short essay about their future goals.

· Attach student transcript

· Provide 2 letters of recommendation

· Include Activities Resume
