Since I took my first class in Instructional Design and Technology, I have learned so many educational technologies in each class. For example, I learned Zotero Connector would help people gather, organize, and analyze sources and then share the results of their researches from ETEC 5000. There is no doubt that all my learnings would improve and practice my technology skills for my future educational design products. As an educator, I feel so privileged to access various technologies for my future career. We have not only learned how to design learning products but also current technology trends in order to enhance learners' learning engagement, fulfill learners' learning needs, and provide enjoyable learning experiences for learners.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, virtual learning became a necessity for students and professionals. As people gradually adapt to the latest technologies, hybrid learning will become an ordinary method of instruction. Hybrid learning is a blended learning, which is combined online educational materials with in-person classroom methods. Significantly, it's not fully virtual or fully digital. Hybird learning model would improve education and provide high quality learning for learners by combining traditional and non-traditional methdologies.
There is no doubt that 2023 is the year of ChatGPT. Chat GPT is an artificial intelligence program that generates dialogue. Created by Open AI. Specifically, it uses machine learning procedures to process and analyze large amount of data to generate responses to users' inquiries. ChatGPT could help learners with reading, writing, basic syntax exercises. In addition, it also can solve mathematics or physics problems. Improving research and critical thinking skills are other features of ChatGPT as well. Now, it is already updated to GhatGPT 4.0 version in November 2023.
Immersive technologies create digital experiences with a greater degree of sensory immersion and spatial interaction, which are more interactive, engaging, and realistic. Metaverse, virtual reality (VR), Mixed reality (MR), and augmented reality (AR) are all immersive technologies. They all offer an enhanced simulated learning experience while all these technologies provide additional learning elements and reduce distraction.
My Artifacts in IDT Classes
ETEC5440 Process of Instructional Design and Technology I
Although I knew Google sites before I took this class, it was my first time to use google sites to create an instructional design project. It was a group project, our team created surveys, learning materials, and assessments by using google sites as the instructional platform. Since google sites can merge all google apps naturally, the whole technology process was much easier for learners to manipulate. Especially, it is free. Learners could use Google sites as a show case platform while they are organizing their studies and learning materials.
This is a repeatable multimedia project class by using various instructional technologies and authoring tools, so I took twice. At the first time, I had been exposed many different technology for creating and editing videos. Doodly, Camtasia, Magic Design, Powtoon, etc. All these tools would design learning materials more creatively. I used Powtoon to create a summer camp training materials for my clients. Powtoon is an online platform for creating short video presentations, which gives anyone the ability to create professional videos and presentations.
Creating Augmented Reality (AR) or Virtual Reality (VR) project was the goal of my second ETEC6550 class, so there were many advanced AR and VR tools introduced. MyWebAR is a web based augmented reality creating platform. I used MyWebAR to create a real experience of a camper's typical day in a summer camp by starting from scaning the QR code. There is a 3D character as a camper to participate in a real daily schedule. This AR learning project material would let my clients emerge in the situation instead of just reading or listening from words.
It's my pleasure to do my practicum project at Phi Beta Delta Honor Society. For this practicum experience, I used Adobe Photoshop to create and edit graphics for Phi Beta Delta Honor Society's website. Meanwhile, Adobe Illustrator is another great tool for designing and editing words. To emphasize, my graphic design technology skills has been improved dramatically.
