My name is Shawyan Li, and I was born and raised in China. Since 2004 I have lived in the United States. I graduated in Educational Studies from Arizona State University. After graduation, I worked in preschools, elementary schools, and even middle schools. I taught Chinese to a wide variety of age groups. Meanwhile, I also started my educational company to help Chinese students to attend American summer camps since 2015. While living in California, I was a substitute teacher in public California elementary schools. Now, I'm working as a substitute teacher at a local public school district in Maryland. I'm also enrolled as a student in the masters program of Instructional Design & Technology at CSUSB. Working as an educator, I believe that teaching is not just about teaching but inspiring.
Reflection
After taking Instructional Design and Technology classes, I just realized how fundamental to create learning experiences and materials are based on systematic instructional design models and learning theories. In addition, instructional technology theoretically practices creating effective and engaging learning opportunities by using educational technologies pedagogically. Due to the recent pandemic situation, instructional technology has contributed immeasurably to the educational field. Since I'm working in public school classrooms, I feel Instructional Design and Technology is not only the new trend of instruction but also the essential solution to educational needs. To emphasize, instructional technology benefits Special Ed learners remarkably. However, I think it's important to be aware there are disadvantages to over and misusing technologies. Hopefully, I will be one of the instructional technology designers of the future to solve or improve these educational issues.
