Technology Skills Learned and Applied
During my Instructional Design and Technology program, I learned several technology skills that helped me design and develop different educational products.
I learned in course 6640 how to set up and manage a course in Google Classroom. I used this skill to create an online training space for teachers. I posted assignments, resources, and discussion prompts. The product allowed participants to interact with the content and complete tasks in a structured way.
Example: I created a module where teachers practiced using digital tools by submitting sample lesson plans through Google Classroom.
I learned in 6440 how to use Canva to design graphics and instructional visuals. I applied this skill by creating posters, infographics, and slides that explained key concepts in a clear and engaging way.
Example: I designed an infographic that showed the 12 steps of the Dick and Carey model, making the process easier to follow and understand.
I learned how to create my portfolio site by adding different resources, pictures, documents, and other materials. This skill helped me show my work in an organized and professional way. It also supported me at work, where I created a website for our Motel and Student Services department that included links, resources, and important information for staff and students.
I learned how to record and edit videos using multimedia tools. I applied this skill to make short tutorial videos that explained how to use digital platforms and follow step-by-step instructions. I used tools such as Screencast-O-Matic, Zoom, Camtasia, and iMovie to create clear and engaging videos.
Example: I created a screencast that showed how to navigate a learning platform and upload assignments, helping learners follow along easily.
Leveraging Emerging Technology to Support Multilingual Students
At work, I plan to incorporate these technologies in several ways:
Language Support Tools: I will integrate apps, translation software, and interactive language platforms to support multilingual students in developing both academic and language skills.
Data-Driven Support: Using assessment and analytics tools, I can monitor student progress, identify areas where additional support is needed, and tailor interventions for different language proficiency levels.
Staff Training and Collaboration: I will lead workshops and create resources to help teachers and staff effectively use technology to support multilingual learners.
Blended and Accessible Learning: I aim to combine in-person services with online platforms, providing flexible, culturally responsive, and technology-enhanced learning opportunities for multilingual students.
Overall, the program has prepared me to leverage emerging technologies to enhance services, improve learning outcomes, and create a more inclusive environment for multilingual students.
Reflection
Learning these technology skills helped me create instructional products that are clear, engaging, and easy to use. Using Google Classroom, I organized lessons and activities in a structured way for learners. With Canva, I designed visuals like the Dick and Carey 12-step infographic, which made complex ideas easier to understand. Creating my portfolio sitetaught me how to organize different resources, pictures, and documents, and I was able to apply this skill at work to build a website for our Motel and Student Services department. Finally, using multimedia tools such as Screencast-O-Matic, Zoom, Camtasia, and iMovie allowed me to produce tutorial videos that guide learners step by step.
Overall, these skills gave me practical ways to design, present, and share instructional materials. They showed me how technology can enhance learning and help both educators and students access content in a clear and engaging way.
