Cyber Security
In the 2018-2019 school year, Central Educational Center began offering cyber security courses. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the demand for cyber security specialists is expected to rise by as much as 28% over the next 10 years.
The introductory course in cyber security will introduce students to the concepts and issues surrounding security in our BYOT (Bring Your Own Technology) world. This will include:
Cybersecurity concepts and research
Fundamental principles of networking (wired and wireless)
Fundamental principles of the OSI Model
Basic and advanced command prompts
Network infrastructures and network security (including securing BYOT devices in the modern workplace)
Fundamental components of cyber security
Basic principles of cryptology
Current topics in cyber security
Students work ciphers, participate in Capture the Flag competitions, learn to make ethernet cables, set up virtual machines and install Kali Linux. TestOut is used for Virtual Labs, additional lecture, and exams preparing students for TestPro Security Pro certification (and CompTIA Security+ certification).
