We are very excited that your child will be attending Bass Middle School and we look forward to meeting your student soon! Our hope is to host an Open House event in late July. Following is some information to let you know what you and your student can expect in advance of their first day of school.
The first day of school for all students is Thursday, August 5, 2021
You must bring a pencil. If you prefer, you can also bring your school supplies from the supply list posted on the website this summer or you can wait until you return the following Monday.
Your first day will start when you arrive at school (car or bus). Car riders may be dropped off at the front of the school no earlier than 7:30 am. If you arrive between 7:30 am and 8:00 am, you will be directed to the gym or to the cafeteria to eat breakfast. At 8:00 a.m., you will be directed to your homeroom to meet your teacher. Staff members will be stationed throughout the building to ensure everyone gets to the correct location.
After the first week of school, students who arrive at school after 8:15 am will be counted tardy and must be checked in by a parent or guardian.
Students who arrive between 7:30 am and 8:00 am will eat breakfast in the cafeteria. Students who arrive after 8:00 am may pick up a Grab & Go breakfast from the Bulldog Breakfast Buggy located outside of the cafeteria and eat in the classroom.
During homeroom on that first day, you will receive a copy of your schedule. Your homeroom teacher will go over your schedule and help you create an easy to read version. Next, you will receive your student agendas. Your homeroom teacher will give you tips on how the agenda can help you be successful in the 6th grade. Finally, you will then briefly attend the classes on your schedule. The schedule will be slightly different from the normal schedule to allow more time in homeroom to talk about procedures.
Lunch normally takes longer on the first day of school as students are learning the process of entering their own student ID numbers. We anticipate this and allow additional time for lunch.
Students will be dismissed at the normal time on the first day of school. Car dismissal will be at the front of the school and begin at 3:30. First load bus students will be dismissed to buses at 3:33. We will more than likely have a second load of buses that will come from NGHS to BMS and pick students up around 3:45. It is likely that students will arrive home later on the first few days of school than normal. It is VERY IMPORTANT that your child knows how he/she is getting home from school on the first day. Bus routes & bus numbers will be posted on the BMS website before the first day of school.
