Covington-UVCC FFA Named a Top Chapter in the Nation
Upon being named a Top 10 Chapter in the state of Ohio at the State FFA Convention in May 2019, the Covington-UVCC FFA Chapter qualified to the national level in the National Chapter Award program. This program evaluates FFA chapters across the United States (8,612 chapters nationally) on activities they conduct based on their benefits and impact on their students, chapter and community. Some of the activities the Covington-UVCC FFA Chapter included were the Destress Events, Kidwatch Program, Ag. Pro Week, Cardboard City, and their Happy Harvest Day, just to name a few.
In October 2019 the Covington FFA Chapter was recognized at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis for being named a Model of Excellence Top 10 Chapter in the nation. Members prepared a presentation that was delivered at the convention to determine if they are selected as the top ranked chapter in the nation. In Indianapolis Morgan Kimmel, Brenna Miller, and Tori Quinter presented and were interviewed for the honor and on stage in front of over 65,000 attendees the chapter was announced as the Model of Excellence! This is in fact the honor of the #1 FFA Chapter in the nation.
Other highlights of the trip included Hanna Shafer and Shae Robinson being recognized as National Finalists, or top four, in their individual project categories. Both were recognized on stage and receive a monetary prize for the honor. Also, Lindsey Kimmel, Bryan Miller, Joey Schmelzer and Hanna Shafer earned their American FFA Degree on November 2, 2019. This is the highest degree the National FFA Organization can bestow.
Covington FFA is a satellite program of the Upper Valley Career Center and the advisor is Mrs. Jessica Helsinger. The National FFA Organization works to promote premier leadership, personal growth and career success amongst its members.
