At the Southwest side of Kefalonia is the rather sleepy town of Lixouri
The town of Lixouri: There is a post office, banks, chemists, supermarkets, hairdressers, etc. There are also coffee shops, zaharoplasteia (pastry shops), tavernas and grillhouses. At a grillhouse you can sit down or you can take out souvlaki (skewered meat), gyros (kebab), rotisserie chicken, chips, etc. at reasonable prices. Around Lixouri there is a sailing school, horseback riding, and fishing day-excursions
Argostoli is the capital of the island. Gives its name to the Bay of Argostoli.
From Argostoli there are day-trips with a glass boat, trips to the famous beach of Navagio at Zante, and so on
A short drive outside from Lixouri is my own paradise: Kounopetra, Vrahinari and Vatsa
From Vatsa, to walk towards the West, you may take a self driven free platform to cross to the other side of the river. From there you can walk through the amazing scenery, great for birdwatching, towards the picturesque lighthouse of Gerogombos. At some point, you come to the Lagadakia pebble beach, lost in between the rocky cliffs on the sea side.
From Vrahinari, to walk towards the South East, follow the rocky coastal flatlands, continue on a small meandering road until you arrive at Kounopetra. Kounopetra is a peninsula with a tiny fishing harbour and great views of the East part of Kefalonia, including Mount Ainos. In the vicinity towards the East, you will find a restaurant and Kounopetra beach. This beach has sandy shallow waters to swim in and the clay mud at one end of the beach is good for skin peeling
There is a waterpark only 5 minutes drive away.
