November, 2024
Good news! The Pen Pal Projects have been mailed. Now, all that we have to do is to wait for the recipients to take our Corpus Christi Cougars on a merry adventure. As each letter returns to Corpus, every student will share his/her project with the class. In some cases, this might take months since the letters are traveling quite a distance.
Please send in empty cardboard rolls from either paper towels or wrapping paper. Thank you! The students are researching Native Americans and their individual contributions to society. Projects will accompany the students' research projects.
."The Littlest Angel" play is going quite well, considering that practices are during lunchtime. Your child will need angel costumes with haloes and wings. My recommendation would be to check out Oriental Trading for the best prices. The website is orientaltrading.com. You also might want to looks at Party City. If you have an older child who has received the sacrament of Conformation, a white Confirmation gown will also work. Thank you! Also, the play is being put on for the parents on Friday, December 20th at 10:30. Since the play is being put on in the classroom, seating is limited. So, please plan on arriving by 10:15. If you could have your child's costume dropped off at school by Friday, December 13th, it would be appreciated. Costumes should be on hangers and labeled. I will hang them in the closet so that they do not become wrinkled. There will be a dress rehearsal on Wednesday, December 18th. Other students from fifth grade who have opted not to take part in the play and the fourth grades will have an opportunity to view the Dress Rehearsal. Your children are enthusiastic and having a wonderful time.
Math homework should be checked by parents. Thank you!
December 16-20th
Greetings from 5B! As you are all aware by now, the presentation of the "Littlest Angel" will be on Friday, December 20th. The fifth grade has worked diligently during lunches to surprise their parents and we all have had fun in the process. Please plan on arriving by 10:15. The play will begin at 10:30. Thank you!
Also, in Math, we are working on partial products in division. If your child is experiencing difficulty, do not hesitate to reach out to me. We are taking this concept slowly! Thank you!
Wishing you and your family a Merry and Blessed Christmas!
Good Morning! In ELA, our class has been exploring the "Wild West". This period in American history lends well following our research projects regarding faous Native Americans and their personal contributions to their individual tribes or to society in general. Mrs. Gregg delighted the students by providing a sampling of tasteful treats. These included bacon, baked beans, dried fruit and a "hands on" experience of churning butter. This experience was a big hit with both classes in ELA. Looking forward towards the month of January, our Honors ELA class will be researching two famous artists (Pablo Picasso and Vincent Van Gogh). The students will research each artist , write reports and paint their own rendition of a famous work of art.
All students from fiftth grade who chose to participate in our Christmas play are extremely excited about "The Littlest Angel" presentation. Please send in all costumes by Friday, December 13th. Thank you! As a reminder, the play will be presented to parents on Friday, December 20th at 10:30. Please plan to arrive by 10:15 for seating. Also, if you are having trouble finding a costume, why not see whether a relative might have a white Confirmation gown for your child to use. Practices have taken place during lunchtime. It would be appreciated if you could run your child's lines with them since they will not have access to their scripts.
Your children are and continue to be a blessing
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. My email is marybeth.dunsmore@corpuschr.org
January News
During the month of January, Honors ELA will be researching and painting works by Pablo Picasso and Vincent Van Gogh. The students will research both artists. As a class, they will discuss variances in art styles and the life experiences of both artists whom they researched. We will paint during WIN time and during lunch periods for those students who just Love to paint. Art work and research papers will be on display for all to admire who visit Corpus Christi during Catholic Schools Week. All researched material MUST be demonstrated on the students rough drafts!
Please send in a very old oversized undershirt to protect your child's Corpus Christi uniform. Thank you! Also, if you have various sized paint brushes, it would be appreciated if you could sent them into school, as well.
Math - 5B
Our Math class is moving forward in honing our math skills. The students are continuing to learn various ways to problem solve in the area of division. It remains important that parent sign their children's
math homework. Partial quotients algorithms have proved to be quite helpful when tackling difficult math problems and has taught the children that there are ALWAYS more than one way to approach problems in math.
Going Westward Brochure
Parnters will be assigned to create "Going Westward Brochures" in ELA. Our class has discussed the assignment and is ready to delve into it. Here is a link which will take you to the brochure template.

ELA ASSIGNMENTS
Voyages in English - Page 80. Yesterday, we worked on Prepositional Phrases in class.
Valentine's Day Acrostic - This is a "Hush, Hush" assignment between us. Obviously, you know why!!!If your acrostic has more than one word, it is important to skip a line between every word. Feel free to choose between ANY of the following for your acrostic : I LOVE YOU TO THE MOON AND BACK,YOU ARE THE BEST, or, I'M LUCKY TO LOVE YOU!
Describe the changes in the weather today. Pretend that you are writing a story. Just think of what you might use as a HOOK! Our class is only writing a HOOK and nothing more. The weather changed from snow to sleet and eventually to rain. Examples of two HOOKS that I managed to come up with are: "Cotton Candy! Jolly Rancher! Nik-L-Nips Bottle Caps" OR "Fairies Flittering! Skaters Dancing! Swimmers Stroking!"
MATH
Math Packet - Page 37 - Divide Money. Please do numbers 1-6 only, boys and girls. Do not forget your dollar signs and the decimal.
Pages 91 and 92 in your Student Practice Books. ONLY do numbers 1-5. We will complete page 92,in class tomorrow. REMEMBER to look at the top line and then the second line. For example, look at problem number 1. The top line has 2/5 +3/10. You look for a common denominator. The common denominator is 10. So, the equation which you would write is: 4/10+3/10=7/10
