Taking a Breath

From our first breath when we are born to our last breath when we transition, our breath is with us. It is our constant companion, whether we think about it or not. When we intentionally focus on our inhales and our exhales, we can tap into a natural stress reliever, a present moment mindfulness tool and a simple way to become a better leader, co-worker, friend and family member. This session will introduce you to a variety of breathing techniques that you can do anytime, anywhere as well as discuss the potential of taking this focus on your breath into a regular mindful meditation practice

Negotiating for What You Want

Speaker - April Bush

Have you ever felt anxious, nervous, excited, angry, uncertainty when preparing for a negotiation?  These feelings are very normal.  During this session we will explore the relationship between emotional intelligence (EI) and negotiation.  We will talk about how to be aware of our emotions before, during and after a negotiation.  In addition, we will explore determining the emotions of the other person(s) involved in the negotiation. Ultimately, we want the results of the negotiation to be positive for both parties involved.  Join me as we dive into emotional intelligence and negotiation tactics to get what you want.

How to incorporate passion or interest (or both) into your 24/7

Too many meetings and not enough fun?  We will share ways in which we carve out time for working out, singing, pickleball, golf and travel.  It can be done...even if there is some blending of personal and work and/or work and personal.  Time away from work allows for creativity and new perspectives.  We can't wait for you to join us!

Featuring guest speaker... Shannon Beckemeyer works in project management for LabCorp. She is passionate about improving client experience through thorough and clear timelines, coordination between disparate departments within the company. Her work has led her to consider the role of technology in project management, including the use of AI, automation, and improving the client communication ecosystem. Prior to being in project management, Shannon performed PCR assays for the COVID-19 tests prevalent during 2020 and 2021.

Shannon is also an experienced professional singer who continues to work professionally regionally. Her area of interest includes modern premieres of 17th- and 18th-century Central and South American music. She holds music degrees from Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music and DePauw University, and is pursuing a master's degree from University of Wisconsin--Madison in addition to her biochemistry degree from DePauw.

The topic of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) continues to be a contentious subject in the headlines for various reasons.  Meaningful dialogue surrounding sensitive topics that could lead to understanding one another is often hindered by political rhetoric.  How do you begin to broach uncomfortable conversations without appearing to be intolerant, ignorant, or insensitive?  What if you inadvertently say the wrong thing and your intention is misinterpreted?  What are some effective tools that you can employ to strengthen authentic communication in the workplace around controversial issues? This interactive session will equip you to initiate delicate DEI conversations with colleagues and enhance communication about sensitive topics.  Mohammed Ahamed, founder and CEO of EDI Executive Search, will be a co-presenter.
