Participant Removal Process

STC Participant Removal

Participants may be removed for the following, but not exclusive, reasons.

• Missing rehearsal without extenuating circumstances or prior communication to the production team

• Arrival to rehearsal late without extenuating circumstances or prior communication to the production team

• Ill preparedness. This may include but is not limited to:

  • Not being memorized when given a due date

  • Not bringing items asked of you to bring

• Inappropriate behavior during rehearsal. This may include but is not limited to:

  • Disrespect given to the cast and production team

  • Becoming a distraction during rehearsals

  • Being intoxicated during rehearsals

• Creating an unsafe rehearsal environment

  • This can be created through interactions with others both in and outside of rehearsals

Process:

• Phase 1: The problem will be discussed directly with the participant on 2 occasions by the stage manager and/or director. This will be a casual, courteous reminder.

If problematic behavior is not resolved by the next rehearsal time following the second discussion, Phase 2 will occur.

• Phase 2: The STC Production Manager and/or STC General Director will have a private conversation with the participant addressing their behavior.

If the problematic behavior is not resolved by the next rehearsal following the private conversation, the participant will be removed from their position.

• Removal: The participant will be told, personally, by the Production Manager and/or General Director that they are being removed from the production. Their behavior that led to the removal will be identified and solutions to remedy the identified problematic behavior will be discussed.

Participant Return to STC Productions:

• Participants that wish to take part in STC productions before 3 months following their removal:

  • Are required to meet with the Production Manager and General Director. At this meeting, the participant must demonstrate that steps are being taken to remedy their problematic behavior. The STC members can then vote on giving permission for participant involvement in active STC productions.

  • The director and stage manager will be informed of the actor’s “probationary” period after casting. Updates about the actor’s behavior at rehearsals will be given at weekly production meetings.

• Removed actors that wish to audition for an STC production after 3 months following their removal:

  • The director and stage manager will be informed of the actor’s “probationary” period after casting. Updates about the actor’s behavior at rehearsals will be given at weekly production meetings.
