This document provides step by step instructions on modifying the Template Google Classroom.
Does your farm use training videos for onboarding or trainings such as sexual harassment prevention and safety?
A problem many farmers face is keeping all their training materials and videos organized so they are easily accessed when needed.
Google Classroom is a possible solution. Google Classroom is a free learning tool available to anyone. All you need is a Google account. Within Google Classroom you can post links to videos, pictures, standard operating procedures, and any other important materials, which allows you to keep all of your critical onboarding training materials only a click away. It organizes materials including documents, PowerPoints, videos, and allows the student to take quizzes and ask questions, among other features. Google Classroom is organized like a filing system, but also allows for some interactivity.
We have created a template Google Classroom that can be modified for your farm that includes many of the resources on this website. One nice feature of the template is that we have translated the introduction in many sections into Spanish, and we have located Spanish language resources.
This link will take you to a form where you can request a copy of the Google Classroom Template be sent to you. This might take a day or so, depending on the timing of your request. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1w9MLpVXmZAgkAHLV7aZTl2BCvUz-MuBP5AXwWxVFrFc/edit?usp=sharing.
The Cornell Ag Workforce Development Program also has a website on using Google Classroom for Onboarding Onboarding and Training Farm Employees with Google Classroom | Cornell Agricultural Workforce Development This includes a link to a webinar on using how to use google classroom.
Quizzes are a great way to assess employees understanding of standard operating procedures or even to satisfy required trainings like sexual harassment prevention. But the quiz feature in Google Classroom can also be a great way to collect basic contact information from employees in a digital format or as a way for employees to provide feedback and suggestions for managers to consider. This is a link to a quiz template so you can see the different question formats that are available. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc8fattcDcR8buhNADzSInn5t1TLFIX5MxY41iRlTmhcvWygQ/viewform?usp=pp_url
Another feature is the Question. You can ask a question and collect responses from your employees. Your employees can also respond to each other. https://classroom.google.com/c/NDMwNzcyMjE3NTYy/sa/NDMwNzc5NTUyMTE2/details is an example of how the question looks.
Assignments are useful when you want employees to provide you with information or to return information to you by a specific date. You can see what an assignment looks like here https://classroom.google.com/c/NDMwNzcyMjE3NTYy/a/NDMzOTQ0MjgwMTc1/details
Materials is the category in Google Classroom for information that you want to make available. This can include text, documents, videos, pictures, spreadsheets. This is the category you would use for things like SOPs, training materials, and employee manuals.
