Testing Adjusting and Balancing (TAB) takes a newly installed or misbehaving system and moves it as closely to desired operation as possible. Once HVAC systems are running, it is the job of the TAB practitioner to:
Test the operation of the systems, gathering technical data about current and potential performance.
Adjust the systems to perform as closely to the design or desired operation as possible.
Balance the systems' service to different regions which are operating unevenly.
Pre-Construction TAB / Retro-TAB - Sometimes, the special instruments used in TAB are needed for surveying a system whose design has been lost or needs to be duplicated exactly. This is not uncommon when a building that has been in service is going to be retrofitted or enhanced. Taking TAB measurements before and after a project can produce an objective measure of improvement or stability.
