Testing Adjusting and Balancing

• Testing Adjusting and Balancing (TAB) takes a newly installed or misbehaving system and moves it as closely to desired operation as possible.  Once HVAC systems are running, it is the job of the TAB practitioner to:

  • Test the operation of the systems, gathering technical data about current and potential performance.

  • Adjust the systems to perform as closely to the design or desired operation as possible.

  • Balance the systems' service to different regions which are operating unevenly.

Pre-Construction TAB / Retro-TAB - Sometimes, the special instruments used in TAB are needed for surveying a system whose design has been lost or needs to be duplicated exactly.  This is not uncommon when a building that has been in service is going to be retrofitted or enhanced.  Taking TAB measurements before and after a project can produce an objective measure of improvement or stability.
