For the past two years, I have worked as a dietetic technician at Essentia Health, in Fargo, ND. My main duties are to effectively communicate with patients over the phone on what they want to order for meals. This includes talking to them about their diet orders and their various disease states. Communication is key in making sure the patients feel understood and cared for by providing proper diet education, along with suggesting suitable options for their diet. It can be challenging working with patients who are unhappy with their prescribed diets, but it has been my job to make sure they have all their options provided to them. Secondary duties of my job include the delivery of trays to the patients on the floor, working the coffee cart in the main dining area, and working the cash register in the cafeteria.

During the summer of 2020, I worked as a server at the Fargo Country Club. I served and handled food while following proper food safety protocols. This included adequate presentation of food, polishing glassware, efficient service, and proper tray carrying. I created great connections while working in a fun environment, and I enhanced my customer service skills while working with a wide variety of clientele.

While working at Vector Control in Cass and Clay County, I was in charge of obtaining lab samples across the Fargo-Moorhead area. We were tasked with finding larva and mosquitos to see if they had any traces of West Nile. This was one of the most intriguing jobs I have ever been a part of, because I helped take part in my community's public health by stopping the spread of disease. While this may not directly tie into nutrition, it was a very valuable experience due to the practice of accurate record keeping, documentation, and cataloging of various findings. This experience significantly enhanced my critical thinking and ability to work independently and as a group.

While working at Juice It in Fargo, ND, I gained valuable experience interacting with customers and preparing a wide variety of healthy menu items. I provided quality customer service while being entrusted to work independently within time constraints. I was also assigned the role of scheduler because of my dependability and organizational abilities. This position strengthened my leadership skills, as I was not only ensuring coverage for the week, but also allowing satisfactory time off.
