This past fall, Concordia opened a food shelf on campus for any student to use as a way to support anyone if they were experiencing food insecurity or just needed some groceries. I helped receive shipments from Great Plains Food Bank, unload boxes, and stock the pantry. This job has given me a sense of pride knowing that I have helped students like myself, while also helping me see the value in community work.
Spring 2020, the North Dakota Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics held their annual conference in Fargo, ND. It allowed me to see so many interesting speakers, and learn so much about various nutrition subjects. I was also able to attend a tabling session and talk with current individuals working in all sorts of different industries that deal with nutrition. This allowed me to build networks and helped me narrow down what jobs I may or may not look for in the future too. Not to mention I got to make my own salt-free breakfast burrito seasoning seen in this picture.
The FNCE Conference looked a little different this year, as it went completely online due to the Covid pandemic. However, that did not stop me from attending a lot of really good speakers and sessions. In fact, I am still able to go back and watch any of the sessions I want, and I am taking full advantage, Each session is so different and has allowed me to branch out and learn about all of the current research and treatments for all sorts of nutrition related topics. This is information that is, and will continue, to help push me further in my future.
I have been a member of Concordia's Student Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics since September of 2018. As a member I have attended meetings to connect with and talk to various dietitians within the Midwest, primarily the Fargo-Moorhead area. This has allowed me to further consider what career I would like to pursue in nutrition, but has also allowed me to learn more about all of the options available to me.
I was hired to be on Orientation as an Orientation Leader and First-Year-Transition Mentor in Spring of 2020. During Orientation week this job entailed welcoming a group of students to campus this Fall of 2020, bringing them to various activities, showing them around campus, engaging in discussion, and act as a support as they transition to life at college. After Orientation week, I became their FYT Mentor and took on the role of helping them further navigate college. I did this by facilitating labs on Friday mornings about various college related topics such as online learning, registration prep, time management, and scheduling. This job has helped me develop into being a better facilitator by helping me understand how to keep conversation going by asking good questions and being a good listener. It has also taught me how to be more understanding and develop an ability to think quicker on my feet (due to various technical issues that may have happened).
Within the Admission Office I was hired as a Student Ambassador in Spring 2019, and since then I have been promoted to Student Ambassador Intern. I have loved this job since the beginning and have always strived to provide help to incoming students as much as I can because choosing the right college is a huge task. Being a Student Ambassador involves outreach to prospective students, usually in the form of emails, postcards, or letters. Tours given to prospective students are also a huge part of the position as well, and are extremely important for helping them see if Concordia is the right fit for them or not. With being the Student Ambassador Intern, I took on more responsibility that includes scheduling, training development, tour training ambassadors, check-ins with ambassadors, and being the "bridge" between the students and our supervisor. This job has helped me develop my communication skills as well as time management and using various computer applications.
I wanted to join Concordia's Ultimate Frisbee team before I even step foot on campus, and I haven't looked back since. I have now been a captain of the team for the past two years and have gathered a deep enjoyment for the sport. Being apart of this team has allowed me to work towards developing a new skill, as well as having fun with my fellow students and friends. It has also helped me build relationships with students from other schools, and has allowed me to observe and further understand effective methods for teaching and helping others understand the best ways to further themselves in the game.

Track and Field has been a huge part of my life for the past 9 years. I have ran everything from long distance, to short distance, to long jump, to shot put. Being apart of a college team has been a change from what I was used to back in high school, but I have learned to roll with the increased competition to better myself and to try to better those around me. My coaches have also been a huge support for me throughout my time at Concordia if I am ever stressed and need to talk about things that are going on, or just stay active. Both of my coaches have been huge role models for me during my time on campus and I hope to continue to implement things that they have taught me in the future such as hard work, determination, and team work above all else.
