Cooloola Coastcare
Cooloola Coastcare launched the Tech in the Field BioBlitz in 2026; a hands-on event bringing together scientists, project leaders and experienced citizen scientists for three days of high-tech learning. The event is designed to build participants' confidence using tools such as online and offline mapping apps, wildlife photography, GPS, and digital ID platforms to collect robust ecological data.
Participants will also encounter a wide range of digitial tools used by scientists, ecologists and citizen scientists.
DATES: 27 -29 March 2026
LOCATION: Headquarters at Rainbow Beach Community Centre & Hall with fieldwork in the Cooloola Recreation Area of the Great Sandy National Park.
CONTENT:
This is a specialised event about learning to use all sorts of technology suitable for conducting or participating in a BioBlitz and to survey biodiversity.
Practical, scientist-led workshops.

Tech includes:
iNaturalist and advanced features for biodiversity data collection and species identification.
Mapping online and offline for site selection and survey tracking.
Field photography including macro-photography.
Geolocation of photographs.
Data sharing.
Tools for site selection for surveys.
