SafeCenter Domestic and Sexual Violence Services of Clinton and Shiawassee Counties exists with the mission to “Empower. Advocate. Educate. Prevent” and a vision to “End domestic and sexual violence.” Our mission and vision is accomplished through a variety of programs and services, including but not limited to: 24-hour crisis hotline assistance, 24-hour emergency shelter, 24-hour on-call emergency response, advocacy/supportive services, sexual assault therapy, legal advocacy, transitional supportive housing, sexual assault response team coordination, community awareness/education/outreach, social/systems change, basic needs, and information/referrals.
The importance of SafeCenter’s work in the local community cannot be overstated. Victims/survivors of domestic and sexual violence in rural areas are at higher risk of lethality (homicide) for many reasons, including longer response times from law enforcement, greater distances to life-saving medical treatment, limited access to various resources, and limited access to public transportation. SafeCenter works 24/7/365 to ensure that victims/survivors of all ages have the resources and support they need in order to cultivate hope and healing on their journey.
One domestic violence survivor shared this about SafeCenter’s assistance:
“I want to thank everyone there that has helped me in my journey to healing and creating a better life for myself and my son. I was at my lowest point in life and felt hopeless when I came in for help. The compassion and support I received helped me regain my quality of life again and find a new independence in myself I thought I never had. I will forever be grateful.”
