Kitchen Brigades
At Kitchen Brigades we have a cook book that has recipes and our mentor tells us wich one we will be doing that day and we open it up and look for the recipes
This is the first thing we made. It was a chocolate dip with cut fruits.
This is the recipe from the book
These are muffins we made a while ago.
This isn't the recipe we used but it is similar
Wayfinders Community Fridge
The Wayfinders Community Fridge was an idea that Meghan Cook (my mentor) had and asked people if they were interested in helping with the creation and excecution of it.
I along with two other students decided to help out with cooking, baking, recipe research/writing, and graphic design.
In the pictures that I have placed below this text you will see some of the baking that i have done. Not everything that iI've made is on here since I try my best to not touch my phone as I am working with food and don't want to constently wash my hands which takes aways time that i could be using to cook and rep evrything I'm working with.

Plans I have for the community fridge meal kits
Chicken Rice and Bean Burrito
The reason I chose this recipe is because I thought that it would make a relatively good meal kit as it is easy to make and there aren’t a lot of ingredients that go into it. There are a good amount of extra add-ons you could put into it but for the sake of keeping it easy and simple for people to make at home I wouldn't put so much into the adapted recipe.
Vegetarian Burrito
As the other burrito has some meat I wanted to make sure there was a vegetarian option. Again this one is simple and easy and you can always add extras to it to add or emphasize flavour and texture.
Baking Kit Ideas
Something I would love e to have going on in the community fridge is a baking kit. Since we have meal kits I feel it makes sense to add some desserts as well.
Brownies
Most people like brownies and love to make them. There were some recipes that looked a bit complecx in terms of how many ingredients they had and this recipe that I found was much simpler.
Sugar Cookies
Sugar cookies are a nice sweet and simple treat to make and have. The best part is that you can have them all year round. Sugar cookies have very basic ingredients which makes them convenient to make.

I quit going to Kitchen Brigades because I didn't feel like I was learning anything. I felt like all i was doing was cooking or baking something from I recipe book, which is something I can do at home, and that's if it was a good day, there where a lot of times where I would just stand there and watch 4 other people do everything because there was nothing that I could do. There were so many people to a group so there was always at least 1 person usally 2 who weren't doing anything. It didn't help that the kids there were really loud, annoying, and immature.
Once I stopped going to Kitchen brigades I wa able to go to Wayfinders on both Tuesday and Thursday, which allowed me to focus more on researching recipes and planning for lab day (cooking/baking days). I feel that during my time at wayfinders I've learned how to cut, peel, and cook with different foods that I most likely would never buy and cook with. I've also learned how to adapt recipes so that they're easier to read and follow along with. I now know how to scale recipes whether that be 2x,3x, or 4x. I also know how add certain seasonings to a recipe if I feel it's missing something.
New Additions To The Fridge
We now have not only meal kits going out but also snacks. We've put in some fruit cups, pudding cups, cheese string, apples, oranges, and yogurt.
