It is crazy how gaming can unite people all over the world. Gaming is popular because most people in the world have a gaming console and most games usually have an in-game voice chat to help communicate with people around the world.
Our school has an esports club, and if anyway who is interested you can go to room 134 in the back or steam lab. The steam labs have a lot of cool gadgets such as a 165hz monitor, Logitech keyboards, headsets, mouses, and mouse pads. They also have RTX 4000 series graphic cards that run 200+ FPS(Frames per second) in every game they play. The Esports club currently has 9 members. Some of the games they play are League of Legends, Valorant, Apex Legends, and Halo Infinite.
All the players are very new to most of the games. The club adviser Mr. Rendall said, “We want to move towards a competitive team and play more competitively” his future goal was to have a team with experienced players and play in competitions. He also wants to play against other schools.
Right now they are training their players to play league of legends and Valorant since Mr.Rendall has experience with those games. That means he can coach the players. The coach organizer also plays league which means there will be two coaches on the team.
Some of the players and the president and most of them said they joined the esports club so they can play video games and play with other people to compete in tournaments and other schools. They all share a common interest in a genre and they all show that.
Of course, the team is going to have to practice a lot because league of legends is a hard game to learn and has a lot of different aspects to the game. It's going to be a while before they go into the competitive scene but we just have to wait and see…

As you guys may know, Comsewogue High School has a variety of extracurricular activities for its students. One of these activities is the LGBTQ Club. The LGBTQ Club is a safe space created for students to be able to be themselves. This club is hosted by Ms. Palin. Ms. Palin is trying to create a safe space where people can come together and feel the support of others.
I interviewed the president of the LGBTQ club, 12th grader Cassandra and asked her “Why is this club significant to the school community?” She stated, “This club is significant to the school because it creates a safe space for students to be themselves.” I then asked, "Why do you enjoy being the president of the LGBTQ club?" She stated that she finds peace in bringing everyone together and creating an open environment for them.
I interviewed a freshman and asked her why this club is significant to her. She stated she's able to be herself fully, and she enjoys the people within the club, they welcomed her with open arms. Another source stated that they are happiest when they are in the club.
Ms. Palin explained why she got involved with the LGBTQ club. A student initially reached out to her asking her to be the advisor for the club and from then she was the LGBTQ club advisor. She said she’s super content with knowing she created a safe place for the students here and they’re comfortable with her.
Some of the club activities include a moment where they sit and talk about social dilemmas, they also review how their day has gone and just express themselves freely to one another.
As we all know the climate that we live in when it comes to society accepting certain things. Certain things are slowly becoming accepted and not deemed upon now and that's due to these clubs that are creating a voice for the LGBTQ+.
It’s great to see society prevail, and it’s even more amazing to see this school's community help be a part of that.

Athletes Helping Athletes,
The Club For You!
By: Jake Sokolowski
Comsewogue has many clubs to choose from every year, but if you are a student-athlete looking to get something else under your belt, Athletes Helping Athletes is the club for you.
Athletes Helping Athletes is run by Mrs. Kidd. Every year Comsewogues' highly decorated athletes join this club, going around to some of the younger classes in the elementary schools where they talk about the sport they play and what it has taught them over their years playing sportsmanship, and the effects of drugs and alcohol use.
We were able to sit with Comsewogue Field Hockey and Lacrosse star Alyssa Deacy where. I asked her why she returned to Athletes Helping Athletes this year, to which she replied, “I remember as a fifth grader always looking up to them, I always wanted to follow in their footsteps, now I feel like it’s time I give back and do the same for them.”
The 2-way senior athlete Alyssa Deacy, Captain of the Girls' Lacrosse team and 2022 All-American Honorable mention is committed to The University of Florida. Alyssa is a pure athlete that will overcome any obstacle you throw at her and is someone all kids should look up to.
Comsewogue’s Star Quarterback Kaeden West, also known as “QB1” is looked up to by many kids. I mean, after all, he is the starting Quarterback, who doesn’t want to be friends with Kaeden.
Kaeden sat down to talk to us for a little while and we got to know a little bit more about him. I asked, “What is some advice you would give to the younger kids?” He replied, “If you're thinking about joining, you should definitely do it. It’s a great experience and it looks great for college.”
Next, we also asked him why he returned to Athletes Helping Athletes this year, to which he replied, “Last year was a great experience… I just loved going back to the younger classes and talking to the kids. I just think it’s rewarding.”
These are just two of the many athletes we have to represent this great club and school. Athletes Helping Athletes is a great way to make new friendships with other athletes and give the youth some advice to hopefully make them better people based on their choices.
One of the most important things about the club is that in order to join you need very good grades. All these club members work hard at the things they want and that's why this club is so respected.
