Interested in writing, and creating new worlds and characters? What about drawing, painting, and photographing different people, places, and items? If any of this piques your interest you should consider joining Serendipity, Comsewogue High School’s literary Magazine Club.
In this club, the group as a whole chooses a theme and everyone writes or creates art to be brought together into one magazine. Once the pieces are done and edited, Lydia McGuigan and I put everything together and we celebrate the launch of the magazine with pizza and other snacks. While that might seem easy when it's put like that, in actuality, it’s a lot of work and it takes a lot longer than it sounds.
After going around and interviewing some of the members of the club to get their thoughts and opinion on the club as a whole, Madison Maida was asked what her favorite part of the club was. She says, “Honestly just the teamwork, you can see [through] the art and the writing, how we all work as a team, together, and it's a really great [way] to bring out creativity.” Everyone in the club is extremely friendly and all love helping each other out and inspiring one another.
The co-editor-in-chief, Lydia McGuigan says that “...it’s a great way to showcase your artwork and writing,” when asked if she would recommend the club to other people.
To give more insight on this, Mrs. Montgomery, the club advisor explained that the Literary Magazine had been an extracurricular activity that hadn’t been taken up by anyone, so Mr. Mosca gave it to her to really make it into something. An interesting little tidbit is that the magazine was first created during the pandemic.
Sticking to themes, Mrs. Montgomery recommends this club to “Anyone who likes to write, at all. Even if they like it, but don’t think they’re good at it. They should definitely come and write for it, cause they will enjoy it and they’ll see their product published— even if it's digital. Also, anybody who’s an artist or wants to be an artist.” In other words, this club is great for anyone with a creative mind.
To top it all off, Mrs. Montgomery gave some insight on her hopes for the future of the magazine stating, “My hopes are twofold, one that we’re gonna be able to publish it on paper, and the second is we’re going to have a creative writing class, that also has a budget so that we can publish both issues on paper.”
Those are just the basics of the club, but there is so much more than you think. One of the best parts about the magazine is the launch party that we have after every edition is officially published. The group gets together and eats pizza and other snacks and we read and look over the magazine, which is a great way to get all the club members involved and together to celebrate what we created together.
If you’re at all interested in joining the club, please don’t hesitate to find me, Jenna Levine, or Mrs. Montgomery, and ask about getting involved and joining. All members are welcome!

Drama Club!
By Harrison Martino
This year the drama club will perform "Shrek the Musical". The cast is very excited and thinks it’s going to be a great show. A Lot of people don’t know how much work goes into a production like this. They meet after school every day for 4 months straight. In speaking to some of the cast members it is evident that drama club holds a special place in their hearts and this year’s musical is sure to be terrific.
Tom McGuire, who plays the lead role of Shrek says that drama club, “is a big part of my life, I’ve been doing it since I was young”.
Tom continued to say that drama club is a great way to “ get your talent out there, and a way of expressing yourself”.
Anna MacQueen who in her first leading role, plays Fiona agrees, “Drama is a safe space, where I can really be myself”.
When asked about drama club, Marissa Piambo says, “ It’s a good opportunity for people to express themselves, have fun, and do what they like to do”.
As an exchange student, Camila Perez has a slightly different take on drama club, “because I am an exchange student I feel like I need to participate in a lot of stuff to make it more meaningful, and I always loved drama’
. One thing is clear, the drama club is certainly the place to express your love for the arts. Camila added, “drama for me means expression, finding your people, that share your same interests”.
Tom encourages everyone to come out and see Shrek the Musical, stating that it is a “fantastic show” and all of the actors are “very talented”.
Marissa echoes that sentiment stating that “it’s going to be really good”.
It is clear that the drama club is a special place where students can be themselves, work with peers with similar interests, and express themselves artistically. All of the drama club students have worked extremely hard to make Shrek the Musical come to life. If you can go out and see it on February 10th and 11th at 7:00 pm, support the drama club, and have a fantastic time.

Art Club is a club specifically for students who are interested in art. What it entails are all the variants of Artistic success, as it is composed of teachers who teach all kinds of paintings, knowledge, and history through famous paintings that were achieved through art and that makes them special.
In this interview, we met with the person in charge of this club. Mrs. Coffman is a teacher and head of the art club. Her knowledge has managed to make a good project for the club. What comes with that responsibility is being in charge of one and all the students who join her club. Everyone is welcome in the club especially those who want to learn more about art history and its complexity of it. She supervises herself and they have several activities in her club, such as watching movies about art and discussing important topics for the next activity they have to do in their next club meeting.
There will surely be many more club meetings which are held once a week. If you don't want to miss a meeting we invite you to join anytime. They meet once a week On Thursdays in room 203 It will be fun if you join and meet some students who also share the same interests as you.
