Student Matthew St. Joy expressed his love for the occasion through his electric dance moves and his responses in an interview. When asked about the dance, Matthew asserted “I feel amazed to be a part of this”. Furthermore, he stated that the dance is “awesome and great and epic”. From Matthew’s statements alone, it can be presumed that the dance was a great experience for many students. Speaking of experiences, more students shared their favorite experiences throughout the duration of the night.
Juniors Angelica Paulson and Jillian Queller shared that they thought the dance was a good opportunity for incoming freshmen to experience their first High School event and make friends. In accordance with Seniors Emoni Barrett and Mikayla Riley, the girls reflected that dancing with their friends was a huge takeaway from the night. As well as this, Angelica conveyed that getting ready with friends prior to the dance made the event even more special. After gathering more insight regarding the night, it was discovered that events surrounding the dance added to the excitement of it all.
Seniors Charlie Napoli and Joseph Squitieri revealed that the bonfire was one of their favorite parts of the night because of the “big flames” and that they were ready for the football game the next day. This excitement was popular amongst many peers because, who doesn’t want to see the Warriors get a victory for Homecoming? Overall, the dance was a positive experience for everyone who attended and all interviewees stated that they would return the following year.
Although various opinions are exercising the best part of the night, it can be concluded that the dance was a big hit and it successfully became an unforgettable night for those who attended. The turnout was better than expected, yet there are hopes for a better turnout next year. Still, no matter the outcome, a great thanks is owed to the school and the volunteer chaperones who made the night happen. So with that being said, thank you Comsewogue- The Homecoming dance is the start of an exciting opportunity for students to bond and will forever be a night to remember.

In light of bringing back an old tradition, Comsewogue High School hosted its first homecoming dance on Friday, October 6, 2023, after years without one. The dance was held in the cafeteria and students had access to snacks and drinks as well as were provided with music from a D.J., who turned out to be one of the security guards at our school and the father of one of the students here at Comsewogue!
The dance opened after the annual bonfire that night, and it was a way to celebrate the beginning of the school year before the varsity football game the next day. Along with myself, many peers here at Comsewogue wondered why the dance was brought back suddenly after years of not having one. After speaking with Miss Danisi in an interview, it was established that she and the other class advisors heard of the interest in a homecoming dance from one of the Student Leadership Committee meetings, and they began planning for one. Their planning paid off since the students had a lot of good things to say about the dance.
Within the first couple of interviews, the snacks, or more specifically, the cupcakes, were the best part. Seniors Taylor Ladani, Olivia Paccione, Giullian Arlotta, and others agreed that the food was “surprisingly good” and they were passionate about getting some similar treats for their homes. Students expressed another great interest throughout the dance.
Many students complimented the music choices, or the “good, loud beats” they often referred to it as. Seniors Joseph Squitieri, Nick Grosso, and Ariana Lupo articulated their thoughts on the music: They came to the consensus that the songs played were fun and very exciting, and from how many people were dancing, it is clear that many other students had the same thought. To further demonstrate the excitement the music brought students throughout the night, one student, in particular, was seen enjoying himself and the night extra memorably.

The Homecoming Carnival took place in the school gym on Saturday, October 7th. You may be thinking, why would I only cover the carnival and not the parade? That’s because the parade was canceled due to rain in the forecast. Even though it was canceled, the only thing that rained down that day was confetti shot out during the football game.
Before the cancellation, I interviewed Mr. Mosca about the parade. Since cancellation was a possibility at the time, I asked him what the contingency plan would be in case of rain. He responded, “Since the permits have to be filed so far in advance, we wouldn’t be able to have a rain date for the next day or next weekend. The carnival would probably have to go inside and we’d bring the music inside with it. Luckily, we have Warrior Weekend in the Spring, so if we file the permits, we can move the parade to the Spring”
Unfortunately, this is exactly what happened as the rain came down as our parade plans went up in smoke. However, that didn’t stop us from putting together a great carnival. Students constructed what would’ve been their floats in the gym and put them on display. Bouncy slides were inflated in the gym for the kids to play on. Stands fundraising for various organizations set up in the gym and the hallway outside.
There was also great entertainment during the carnival as the high school band performed “Rock and Roll” by Led Zeppelin and “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” by the Rolling Stones. “It was awesome to be able to perform in front of all those people”, said clarinet player Madison Maida. We also can’t forget the two performances put on by local band, Roadkill, who rocked out in the auditorium. Sandwiched between the two was a performance by the JFK middle school band.
While the carnival was still happening and the fundraisers were making money, the business likely took a hit for some of them. Mrs. O’Hara, who sold shimmer strands at her stand, said, “Maybe we would’ve had more business if not for the rain because not as many people went to the football game and people like to dress up and get really spirited, so it could’ve been affected.”
Even though it wasn’t outside as originally planned, students, parents, and alumni were still able to have fun and enjoy their day at Comsewogue.

We had groups dressed as Marvel Superheroes, Disney Princesses, etc. The outfits students put together this day were amazing with all the detail, accessories, and effort put into each and every single look!
Thursday the Comsewogue Community took a time machine back to different decades as we rolled in on our fourth day of spirit week. We saw lots of enthusiasm as people dressed in their favorite juicy couture tracksuits and low waisted jeans going back to the 2000s. We also saw people go back to the 70s with flare bottoms and Gogo Boots. Sophomore Juliana was dressed as a 1920s flapper and her reasoning was, “My favorite decade is the 20s and I thought it would be fun to go back in time”. Her enthusiasm and effort she put into her outfit really shows how much spirit week means to the Comsewogue community. Decades Day is always anticipated because we get to see people's creativity. Our most popular decade was surprisingly the 80s with people in bright clothes, crazy patterns and big hair. The classic Decades Day did not disappoint!
The last day of spirit week was color wars! A tradition at Comsewogue is the day of the Pep Rally every grade wears their class colors. We have freshmen wear yellow, sophomores wear blue, juniors wear white and finally our seniors wear their black senior jerseys. While the majority of kids were filled with happiness from a successful week of fun and dress up, there were some bittersweet emotions for the upperclassmen. Senior Juliana Lanze expressed, “Putting on my jersey today hit hard because it officially means the beginning of the end.” Senior Wanda Reyes also expressed “It felt crazy to finally be the one wearing the jersey. I feel like we're so old now and it's our last spirit week.. Although they were filled with bittersweetness they were still excited for homecoming and were happy on how well spirit week went.
Although the vast majority of the seniors said farewell to their last spirit week, they were still eagerly anticipating the events to appear that weekend and were rooting for their grades to win the battle between the grades! Students were also excited and hopeful for the homecoming win! But most importantly students of all grades were able to take part in this spirit-filled week. Seniors now have these fun memories to look back on whereas the underclassmen can't wait to experience more spirit weeks.

The much awaited spirit week rolled in at Comsewogue High School, where the community demonstrated enthusiastic school pride during an enjoyable and prosperous spirit week. Following numerous interviews throughout the week we found out what excites Comsewogue students the most about spirit week, as well as their reasons for dressing up and celebrating.
The first two days of spirit week were America Day and Tropical Day. On America Day students started off spirit week strong by showing their patriotism, by being dressed head to toe in red, white, and blue repping American flags and all kinds of American Pride.
Two seniors, Julie Dorgan and Griffin Braun, coincidentally showed up in matching eagle onesies while wearing an American flag cape, stickers on their face, and more patriotic accessories. Really showing the community how America Day should be celebrated.
The next day was Tropical day! Where students and staff got to go back to summer time, by showing up with their most tropical outfits. From leis, Hawaiian shirts, and flower clips we got to have summer back at Comsewogue in October.
Senior Samantha Cardarelli, expressed how “Tropical day is great because it lets me get back into summer clothes, and that's my favorite season. ”All the people dressed up really brought the school spirit back to life and rallied everyone for the rest of spirit week."
On the third day of spirit week it was the beloved Character Day, where everyone gets to dress up as their favorite character either by themselves or in a group. It feels like an early Halloween around Comsewogue spotting all the different people you recognize.
Most students choose to participate in group costumes like seniors Cassie Alix, Marissa Piombo, Emily Silva, Katey Walsh and Alyssa Acconi who we saw dressed up as the characters from the well known South Park, where they went all out in winter apparel despite it being 90 degrees out.
