LCA methodology was presented and discussed at the meeting “Ecodesign and LCA” organized in Milan by Chimica Verde Bionet and Federcanapa on 26 February 2024. An issue of this research field is the Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of new mulching films. TRL is an indicator of the degree of maturity of a technology, originally developed by NASA and now widely used by the European Union. The TRL ranges from a minimum of 1 (basic principles observed, beginning of the research phase) up to 9 (operational process producing a product marketed and tested in a competitive market environment). In fact, an LCA assessment cannot be realistic if based on laboratory data, but must be based on technologies that allow production. The research group are working to overcome this issue.

Next steps
We’ll start a collaboration with all project partners who will analyse the costs (LCC) in order to assess, if possible, the carbon footprint for the MULCHING+ films LCA
