Week 15 in a 16 week term
Some terms have a 16th laboratory session. In those terms that have a 16th laboratory session, week 15 focuses on planetary astronomy as well as galactic astronomy and cosmology. In terms without a 16th laboratory session there is usually still lecture days and this material is usually placed in that week in which no laboratory occurs.
Note that if there is an additional laboratory day during a term, generating a 16 laboratory term, an additional laboratory is created and placed here. The laboratory is usually based on the mathematics of a plaything. Such as the diameter of a hula hoop versus the period of a hula hoop. Or the mathematical model that describes the nth bounce height of a ball. Bounces decay away following a mathematical model the students encountered earlier in the course. Other terms have used a sports radar gun to determine flying disk launch velocity versus distance the disk flies. Any sort of toy that generates measurements can be the basis of a laboratory. One term the class used the amount of stretch on a sling ball elastic versus distance the sling ball traveled.
