The Translation and Impact Committee aims to Provide opportunities for COMBS scientists to learn about research translation through focused workshops and bootcamps, industry placements with COMBS partners, and mentoring with researchers who have lived experience in research translation and commercialisation. Identify entrepreneurial COMBS scientists and support them to participate in translation activities.
The COMBS Translation Grants support researchers advancing early‑stage discoveries into practical prototypes and IP‑ready concepts. With up to $30,000 per project, the scheme accelerates progress from TRL1–2 to TRL3–4 through targeted funding, mentoring, and structured evaluation pathways.

Our Entrepreneurship Training Workshops, guided researchers strengthen the pathway from innovation to market impact. Through industry mentoring, pitching, and problem‑focused activities, participants explored how their work can address practical challenges. As technologies evolve, initiatives like this play a vital role in supporting researchers to translate ideas into solutions that benefit industry and communities.
Look forward to Phase 2 on Entrepreneurial Training in 2028!
In collaboration with our University research partnership and translation teams, create common processes to capture and protect intellectual property and, most importantly, identify pathways for investment in the development and translation of this IP to create impact.
Engage with global industrial road mapping initiatives (e.g. IEEE Integrated Photonics Systems Roadmap), non-industrial impact opportunities (e.g. Astronomy and Space programs), and national security initiatives
such as ASCA.
The COMBS IP Subcommittee’s mission is to provide a collaborative forum for identifying, evaluating and developing intellectual property arising from COMBS research. The subcommittee supports both the introduction of new ideas and the progression of existing IP toward commercialisation.
