Looking for fresh ideas and exciting research collaborations? Our triweekly online seminar series is the perfect place to:
🔬 Discover groundbreaking research across COMBS. Keep an open mind and ask yourself, "How could my work connect with this project?"
🎤 Support emerging researchers—HDR students and ECRs will be sharing their insights. Engage, ask questions, and offer valuable feedback to shape the future of research.
Don’t miss this opportunity to connect, learn, and collaborate! Join us online weekly.
Presenters: This is your chance to refine your conference presentation skills—with a little extra time to dive deeper and deliver your talk in a more relaxed, detailed manner.
Check out our "Tips for Presenters" below for expert advice on making your presentation stand out!
The Brief:
You have 20 minutes to present your research—just like at a conference, but with more time to unpack your concept. Typically, you’d have just 10-12 minutes, but here you have more time to elaborate on your concepts. Go into more details on how you achieved the result (including any difficulties, experiences or learnings). Want to experiment with a new presentation style? This is your chance!
Your Audience:
👥 All COMBS members (across all research themes)—a supportive community eager to engage with your work.
Your Goals:
🎤 Sharpen your presentation skills – Receive constructive feedback to help you deliver a winning talk at your next conference.
✨ Encourage collaboration – Present your research in a way that sparks interest and potential partnerships.
✅ Keep it simple – Start with a clear, lay-friendly summary of the key concept behind your research.
✅Be clear – Ensure your key messages are easy to follow.
📉 Use visuals wisely – Avoid overloading slides with graphs or excessive data.
🔍 Explain your research impact – Make sure the audience understands why your work matters.
⏳ Take your time – Use the extra minutes to elaborate on concepts and improve clarity.

Everyone starts somewhere! Even our most experienced Professors were once in your shoes. They got to where they are today by receiving feedback—and now, they’re here to pass those insights on to you.
After your presentation, feel free to connect with our Centre Science Communicator - Rachael and Research Training Coordinator - Ruth for a deeper discussion on your feedback and practical ways to enhance your presentation skills. 🚀
