When helping your child, it is important not to give them answers. It is OK for your child to struggle a little. Productive struggle is good for learning, it is good for the brain. If your child is struggling too much, let the teacher know so the teacher can provide interventions and assistance. Students need strong, effective and deliberate practice for a sustained period of time. Making mistakes is part of how we learn!
Being an independent learner means being able to ask questions when you don't understand and ask for help when you need it. Encourage your child to take charge of their learning and ask for what they need. They can do this virtually in a private chat message to the teacher, an individual email, or message on Google Classroom or Class Dojo. Or they can take a risk (one of our Project Adventure values!) and ask in the group/class meeting. Chances are another student needs that same assistance or has that same question!
