Your child's learning space is important, but does not need to be elaborate. Your child needs a place where they can work without interruptions or distractions. This could be a living room, a dining room, or even an outdoor space! If possible you can designate a space that is just for learning each day. This way, your child knows that if they are in their spot, it is school time. This helps them understand the expectations.
Your child will need to have their school supplies available to them in their learning space. There is a list of school supplies under the tab School Supplies or on Class Dojo on the School Story. Some important things to have available while at home each day are: a computer (fully charged), headphones, pens/pencils, school books, notebooks/folders as directed by your teacher, and a positive attitude!
You can make a portable work space for your child! Have your child use their backpack to store all of their supplies each day. They can take their backpack to their "school location" each day! Then at the end of the day they can pack up their backpack, and put it away! This will not only free up space each day, but also give your child a clear beginning and end of their school day! Also, look below for examples of a tri-fold work space! Another great portable option!
A learning space can look like whatever you/your child want it to look like! There is no wrong answer here (except maybe in front of a TV that is turned on all day!). These pictures are some examples of different work spaces.
Here are two examples of portable work spaces! You can get one of these tri-fold poster boards at the store. Some examples of important items are: calendar to write down important information/assignments, a pencil pouch to hold supplies, a hook to hold headphones, dry erase pockets to hold schedules or important information, and words of encouragement! This can be folded up and put out of the way at the end of the school day!
This is Chloe, Mrs. Antis's daughter! She is ready to start kindergarten this year with her learning space set up! She has her computer and headphones so she can be focused during her live classes. She has a dry erase pocket to practice her writing or to store her class schedule. She also has a bucket to hold her papers and books!
Here is an example of a student working in their kitchen or at a dining room table. Everything is portable and easily moved each day. She can store everything in her backpack and keep it organized and out of the way! Some important items that she has in her workspace are a computer, a notebook, a water bottle, and writing utensils!
