Course Registration
Make sure you fully understand the requirements needed to earn your high school diploma.
Your Career Development Plan is the road map that will help you navigate your way through your four year high school experience. One important part of this plan is your transcript. Your transcript is a complete record of all the high school courses you have taken, your grades and the credits you have earned. Talk to your school counselor and/or your teachers if you need help understanding graduation requirements or reading your transcript. STEP 3: Be sure you understand your options for rigorous courses.
Begin with answering this question: What is your post-secondary (after high school) goal? Your goal should help guide you on rigorous high school course selection. Courses can be offered on standard, honors or in some cases, Advanced Placement levels. As a guideline Columbus County Schools encourages you to take the most challenging courses you can successfully complete. Please review the Columbus County Schools Registration Guide on this page to review courses offered in our district. You and your parent/guardian should use a variety of information to help you make course and level decisions. This information includes:
Your Postsecondary (after high school graduation) Goals - Enroll In College, Enlist in the Military or Enter the Workforce
Your work ethic
Your current and past grades and academic performance
You reading level and past performance on exams and EOGs/EOCs
Step 4: Complete your school's registration planning form.
This form helps you select courses for the upcoming school year that best align to your Career Development Plan. Be sure you request the courses you really want to take! Schools plan their master schedules based on student's interests and requests. It is unlikely that you will be able to make changes to your course selections or schedule after the school year begins. Make sure you review your planning form with your parents or guardians.
Step 5: Meet with your school counselor or academic advisor to review your Career Development Plan and current course selections.
This discussion will include a review of your post-secondary goals, a review of your transcript and a look at where you are headed next year.
