Columbine Quilt Guild - Community Quilts

Looking for a Few Good People

Community Quilts are made by the guild and donated to various facilities in the community. The purpose of the committee is to make kits which are then checked out at our monthly meetings. Fabric is cut according to a pattern and put in a bag with the pattern for piecing. Once the top is returned, the committee cuts backing, batting, and binding for the kit, and it is made available for someone to check out to layer, quilt, and bind. The final finished quilt is then put into the inventory and assigned to one of our designated charities for donation.

All these steps take many hands. The committee meets once a month on the 3rd Thursday from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm at Christ the King Episcopal Church, in Arvada. This church has graciously provided us space to store our fabric and work. Anyone is welcome to join us. Christ the King Episcopal Church, 6490 Carr St., Arvada.

Members at large check out either kits to piece or kits to quilt every month, if interested. This work by members makes the Community Quilts program successful as you can see by the huge number we have been able to donate this year.

Join us and make a quilt for charity!

Quilters are a generous group. Generous with their talents, time, and hearts. Community Quilts manages the creating, collecting, and distribution of quilts from crib size to twin size. Here is our current list of Board-approved organizations:

Ralston House is an organization with 3 locations, which provides forensic interviewing of children who have been victims or witnesses of violence and abuse. We donate 10 brightly colored children’s quilts from lap size to twin size every other month.

Hope House empowers parenting teenage moms to strive for personal and economic self-sufficiency with a motto of "We are making a difference, two generations at a time." We donate five children's and five adult quilts to them every month for the moms to keep.

Alliant Palliative and Hospice Care provides in-home health care, paliative, and hospice care.

Veterans are provided 15 to 20 quilts annually in October through American Legion Post 178, which gives them to the Redistribution Center for Vets.

United Methodist Church of Arvada is provided 18 quilts annually to be given to Arvada families in need, as identified by the local schools.

EMERGENCY QUILT REQUEST

Occasionally we are asked to provide a few quilts for people in dire circumstances. Since our Guild has been very supportive of Community Quilts, we have been able to respond. However, rather than pull from quilts already designated for our chosen facilities (noted above), we are building a small stash for other emergency situations. We may or may not be able to meet all requests, depending on the frequency.
