Columbine Quilt Guild - Give It A Try

Give It A Try is the main fund-raiser for the guild. Volunteer guild members offer their time, talent, and homes to provide workshops, tours, experiences, and more for a nominal fee. Members and non-members are welcome to participate in GIAT classes.

Members who wish to teach a class or host an event volunteer in the late summer and early fall. At the December meeting, members (and non-members) can sign up for the classes they wish to take. Slots are limited. Classes are held at the host's convenience beginning in January and finishing up by August 1st.

Most of the classes are two or three hours in length and cost $15. Some classes are longer than three hours and cost $25. Some classes require a nominal materials fee. Attendees must pay all costs at sign up and these costs are non-refundable and non-transferrable. If you forget to attend a class or life gets in the way, the Guild considers the payment a donation to the Guild.

Additional details about the workshops, including dates, times, hosts, etc. will be provided through the website, newsletter, and eBlasts to members as it gets closer to registration.

GIVE IT A TRY 2027 CLASS LIST

Beginning Genealogy using Family Search.org. Learn to set up an account and dig into family research.

Ralston House Tour. Visit their Northglenn facility and hear how they successfully connect with children who have witnessed or been victims of violence. This facility is a recipient from our Community Quilts program.

Leopold Bros Distillery Tour and Tasting. Tour this family-owned distillery of fine spirits and vinegars.

Trains and Quilts. Visit the home of a CQG member and her husband, as they share with you a fascinating collection of quilts and a model train set-up – hobbies commencing in the late 1990’s.

Snappy Pouch Bags. Make two, small “snap” bags in this class.

Accuquilt. Join this Demo class to learn ideas for using CQG’s Accuquilt machine to make quilt blocks and Applique pieces.

Crochet along with Quilting Mystery Tea and Game. This class is all about crocheting an easy bookmark, while have a tea party, puzzling out a whodunit quilting mystery book and playing a quilting novel game.

Vintage-style Smocked Accent Pillow. Come to this class to sew a smocked accent pillow.

Let’s Talk Color. Learn how to mix and match colors in a quilt and get your color questions answered by a graphic designer.

How to put a Sleeve on a Quilt Without Hand Sewing. Come and learn this time-saving trick for adding a quilt sleeve.

Animal Snuffle Mat. Make a snuffle mat to hide kibble or treats, providing sniff and search enrichment for your fur baby.

Basic and Art Quilt Binding. We’ll do some basic binding and learn new tricks, like using a binding foot. Then learn how to do an art quilt binding, especially useful for small wall-sized quilts.

Stack ‘n Whack Fabric Selection. Learn how to choose fabric for Stack ‘n Whack projects.

Holiday Fold N’ Stitch Table Topper. Sew a beautiful holiday Table Topper – you choose the holiday theme.

Let’s Make Postcards. Practice stitching techniques and embellishing and make some mailable, fabric postcards.

Chenille Hot pads. Learn what Chenille is all about – come and make hot pads using Chenille.

Two-Color Flange Binding. Sign up to learn the two-color binding method.

Introduction to Kinusaiga. Come to this class and learn how to make a picture from your fabric scraps without sewing – if you have never seen this art, check it out on the internet – it is easy and addictive.

Shuffled Circles Table Runner. Make an Appliqued and pieced table runner project from a very experienced quilter.

Cycle the Platte River Trail. Get out your bicycle and join a group for a Springtime ride along the Platte River.

Swedish Weaving a/k/a Huck Embroidery. Learn traditional decorative weaving on Monk cloth using yarn.

Taming the Curves. Practice techniques to sew those curves smoothly.

Christmas Gnome. You will make a cute little gnome to add to your Christmas decorations.

Beginning Hand Dying Fabric. If you want to learn to make your own dyed fabric, this class is for you.

Mini Collage Wall Hanging. For those of you that are curious about fabric collage, join this class to make a project under the guidance of a talented artist member.

Cathedral Window Pillow. At this class, you will learn how to make a simple Cathedral Window Pillow. The host for this project has received approval from the original designer to teach this pattern.

Painting on Fabric. Explore different things that you can do with fabric and paint.

Garden Party. Sign up to attend a high tea summer luncheon among the beautiful flower gardens of a CQG member.

BOG Coat. Sign up for this class and make yourself a BOG coat – generally described as a zero-waste outer garment made from simple geometric fabric shapes and minimal cuts and seams.

Quilt Stitch Design. This class will teach you how to decide what to stitch where.

Multiple Ways to Make Half Square Triangles. Come and learn the many ways to cut and design half square triangles into beautiful quilt squares.

Freezer Paper Piecing. Instead of foundation paper piecing, learn an alternate method using freezer paper or vellum, to avoid the mess of taking out the papers after sewing.

Vinyl Zippered Project Bag. This class will help you make a clear, vinyl zippered project bag for which you will find many uses.

Learn to Make Lefse. Come and learn how to make this traditional Norwegian flatbread.

Make a Bed Pillow Case. How about making a bed pillow case for yourself or as a holiday or birthday gift.

Make Items that Assist. Gather together to sew simple items for yourself, someone you know or for donation: 1) Walker Bag which is useful as a third hand to hold a phone, water bottle, book, iPad and more; 2) Shelter Pet Pillow for donation to Foothills Animal Shelter and 3) the host will choose a third fun assist item as well.

Let’s Make Toffee. Who doesn’t just love toffee? Come learn how to make it and take home a batch.

Learn Beginning Wool Applique. You will learn the basic techniques of wool applique and the use of different threads as you practice applique sewing by hand at the class.
