Elementary Program Updates

Today grade two students were greeted by the ambassador of Tonga . He came to collect donations of notebooks and stationery from the student body and school to support students affected by the volcanic eruption.

The effort was led by a grade two student; who corresponded with the ambassador, made posters and announcements to the school, and raised awareness. It was a very moving moment and shows even though times are difficult, we can still make a difference. Thank you all who supported this! (Mr. Soulliere)

今日は２年生がトンガの大使と会いました。大使は、生徒たちが火山噴火の被害を受けた子どもたちを支援するために寄付をしたノートや文房具を受け取るために来校されました。

この活動は、ある一人の２年生の生徒が中心となって取り組んできたものです。彼女は、大使とのやりとりや、ポスターの作成、アナウンスなどを通して学校全体の意識を高めてきました。これはとても感動的な瞬間で、たとえ困難な時代であっても、私たちは変化をもたらすことができるということを示すものでした。ご協力くださった皆さま、ありがとうございました！ (Mr. Soulliere)

Earthquake Drill

Today we had an earthquake drill. The students were able to evacuate to the field following the teacher's instructions. In the field, some students also experienced a seismic intensity 6 earthquake on the earthquake simulation car.

今日は巨大地震を想定した避難訓練を行いました。生徒たちはみんな先生の指示に従って、安全に校庭へと避難することができました。また、校庭では地震体験車で震度６の揺れを体験しました。

CIS Buddy Activity Report

On Nov. 18, the High School ESL class met up with the Grade 2s and did a shared reading activity! They also practiced their grammar with the help of the wonderful Mr. Soulliere! Great job everyone!

11月18日に、高校のESLクラスと小学部2年生のクラスが合同でリーディング活動をしてきました。2年生担任のスーリエ先生とともにグラマーの練習も行い、楽しく有意義な時間となりました！

Halloween Event (Junior/Senior)

The Juniors and Seniors had their Halloween fun! Although the event was downsized due to health and safety measures, they had a blast decorating the school, carving pumpkins, dressing up, and participating in various activities planned by our student council. Kudos to our student council members! Congrats contest winners!中高生もハロウィンを存分に楽しみました！感染予防の観点からイベントは縮小されましたが、校内の飾り付け、パンプキンカービング、仮装、に参加しました。主な企画運営をしてくれた生徒会のメンバーお疲れ様でした。 そして各コンテスト受賞者の皆さん、おめでとうございます！

Elementary Program Updates

Last month, on the 29th, we had a Halloween event!👻🎃 Not only the students, but also the teachers and staff dressed up in costumes. In the morning, we did pumpkin carving and then did an activity to find the middle and high school teachers in costumes. In the afternoon, we watched "The Haunted Mansion" in the gym. It was a super exciting day!

先月２９日は、ハロウィンのイベントがありました！👻🎃　子どもたちだけでなく、教職員も仮装をしました。午前中は、学年ごとにパンプキンカービングした後、仮装した中高の先生を探すトリックオアトリートのアクティビティを楽しみました。午後は、体育館で”ホーンテッドマンション”を見ました。最高に楽しい１日となりました！

Today was Spirit Day. The theme this time was "animals", so we all wore clothes with animal patterns and pictures printed on them🐯😺🐰🐶 In the afternoon, we had an activity called Reading Buddies, where the older students read books to the younger students.

今日はスピリットデーでした。今回のテーマは「動物」ということで、みんな動物の柄や絵がプリントされている服を着て登校しました！午後は、高学年の生徒が低学年の生徒とバディを組んで読み聞かせをする活動を行いました。

CIS Buddy Activity Report

Columbia encourages and provides opportunities for students to interact with other age groups. We've had the Grade 9s treated to a wonderful performance of "And the Dish Ran Away With the Spoon" by the Grade 3s. Then, they grouped up and enjoyed a morning of buddy reading!! Great Job!!

コロンビアでは、学年を超えた交流する機会を提供し、異学年活動を推奨しています。9年生は、3年生による「And the Dish Ran Away With the Spoon」の素晴らしいパフォーマンスを鑑賞しました。その後、グループに分かれてバディ・リーディングを楽しみました。

We are starting to practice for next week's Sports Day. On this day, the third and fourth graders practiced relays and the first graders practiced flippy squares.

来週のスポーツデーに向けた練習が始まっています。この日は、３、４年生がリレー、１年生がカードめくりの練習をしました。

Junior/Senior Intruder Drill

The intruder drill was taken place today with the help of officers from Tokorozawa Police Department. The students and teachers did a great job protecting themselves and evacuating in a calmly manner. We learned how to protect ourselves using commonly used school supplies. We take our students' safety very seriously at CIS. Let's keep our school safe and happy :) Shout out to every one of you who participated today!

所沢警察署のご協力のもと、中高生向けの不審者対策訓練が行われました。みんな落ち着いてすばやく対応がすることができていました。バリケードの作り方や、身の守り方を教えていただき、有意義な時間を過ごすことができました。これからも安心安全を意識して行きましょう！参加した生徒・教職員の皆さん、お疲れ様でした。警察署の皆様、お忙しい中ありがとうございました。

Junior Program Updates

In the G8 Japanese class, each group decided on a theme before the summer vacation, and each student read a book on the theme and made a poster. This time, each group discussed the posters they had made and put them together for display.

The works of each group are quite good!

G8の国語の授業では、夏休み前にグループごとにテーマを決め、一人一人がテーマに沿った本を読み、ポスターにしてきました。今回授業で、それぞれが作ってきたポスターをグループで相談しながらまとめ、展示しました。

どのグループもなかなかの出来です！！

On the last day of the pinball club, a match between teachers and students was held. The match was very heated and the teacher team managed to win!!✨

今学期最後のピンボールクラブの日に、先生VS生徒の試合が行われました。試合は白熱し、なんとか先生チームが勝利を収めました！！✨

Junior Program Updates

The Grade 6s and the Grade 8s did a design challenge to see how much weight 10 triangles could carry! The champions were able to hold over 1.5 kg!!

Nicely done!

Grade6とGrade8が共同で、「10個の三角形がどれだけの重さに耐えられるか」というデザインチャレンジを行いました。チャンピオンの組はなんと1.5kg以上の重さを支えることができました！

Elementary Program Updates

In the G2 Japanese class, we are studying how to take notes. On this day, we observed and interviewed staffs who work at school for us. Everyone did their best to take notes, using what they learned in class!

G2の国語の授業では、メモの取り方について勉強しています。この日は、学校で働く人たちにインタビューしたり、お仕事を観察したりしました。みんな授業で学んだことを生かしながら、一生懸命メモを取っていました。

Junior Program Updates

In the G7 Japanese language class, we learned about "the construction of Kanji and radicals", and learned that each part that assembles kanji has a meaning and that they are combined into one kanji. They tried to make their own original Kanji by thinking about the meanings of the parts. They came up with a lot of very interesting kanji!

G7の国語の授業では、「漢字の組み立てと部首」について学び、漢字を組み立てている部分にはそれぞれ意味があり、それが組み合わさって一つの漢字となっていることを学習しました。部分の意味を考えながら、自分でオリジナルの漢字を作ってみました。とても面白い漢字がたくさんできました！

(Seniors) Mid-Term Exams

The first exam of this school year has just come to an end. The last day was the Art Exam. Senior students will have a half-day and dismissed after lunch on the final day of the exams. Well done seniors. Rest well and see you all tomorrow!

今年度初の中間試験が行われ、最終日の今日はアートの試験が行われました。高校生の試験最終日は通常ハーフデーになり、ランチ後に帰宅となります。試験お疲れ様でした！また明日元気な姿で会えるのを楽しみにしています。

Elementary Program Update

The other day, junior and senior high school students from the yearbook club came to elementary to take a picture. We are steadily preparing for this year's yearbook. Last year's yearbook is scheduled to be completed by the end of this month. We hope you'll be looking forward to it!

This year's club activities have finally begun!

At the homework club, every student concentrated on their homework.

The soccer club is very popular this year as well.

Everyone was chasing the ball energetically, and it was fun to watch!

子どもたちが待ち望んでいたクラブ活動がいよいよ始まりました。

ホームワーククラブでは、みんな集中して宿題に取り組む姿が見られました。

サッカークラブは、今年も子どもたちに大人気です⚽

子どもたちの元気にボールを追いかける姿が見られて良かったです。

New School Year Has Started!
