Science Fair 2020/ サイエンスフェア 2020

This year, students from grades 4 through 10 designed and tested out catapults for the 2020 Science Design Challenge. Students were divided into three divisions: elementary, junior and high school. Their catapult had to project their object a minimum distance and make use of recyclable materials. Each group also had to present their project in a slideshow by discussing certain design parameters, such as function, safety/durability, and efficiency. Two types were awarded their year for each division: one for design and performance, and the other for their presentation and communication skills.

Students had great fun trying to hit the villain targets during the catapult testing and I hope that this will inspire all students to become more interested in designing, creating and taking part in group projects in the future.

本校では、毎年この時期に「サイエンスフェア」という生徒が決められたテーマに沿ってプロジェクトに取り組み成果を発表するというイベントを行っています。今年のテーマは「カタパルト（投石機）」のサイエンスデザインチャレンジで、4年生から10年生までの生徒がカタパルトづくりに一から取り組みました。生徒には、定められた最小距離以上の投射と、リサイクルできる材料の使用が求められました。また、グループごとにそれぞれ作成したカタパルトについてプレゼンテーションを行いました。発表では、評価項目である機能性、耐久性、安全性、効率、について説明をしました。各課程（小・中・高）から2チームが「デザインとパフォーマンス賞」「プレゼンテーション＆コミュニケーションスキル賞」に選出され、表彰されました。生徒は皆、的（先生を悪者キャラクターに模したパネル）を倒すのを楽しんでいたようです。これを機に、デザインやグループプロジェクトの面白さに興味を持ってくれたらうれしいです。2020サイエンスデザインチャレンジの受賞者の皆さん、おめでとうございます！また、これを実現するために尽力いただいた先生、スタッフの皆さん、ありがとうございました！

Spelling Bee and Science Fair 2020

We had a Spelling Bee contest on the 31^st of January.

The competition was neck and neck.

There ended up being 3 winners (K to G3 and G4 to G6)!

They were marvelous!

1月31日に、スペリングビーコンテストが開かれました。デッドヒートが繰り広げられ、

三名の優勝者が決まりました。手に汗握るコンテストでした！

On the 7^th of February, there was a Science Fair. This year’s theme was “Catapult”.

Grade 4 to Grade 10 students made unique catapults and demonstrated how far they could throw a ball.

Then the representatives did presentations. It was great! Two groups got medals!

Well done people!

2月7日に、サイエンスフェアが行われました。今年のテーマは、「カタパルト（投石器）」。

4年生から10年生までがユニークなカタパルトを作り、どのくらい遠くにボールを飛ばし、的を倒すかを競いました。

代表者がプレゼンテーションをし、ふたつのグループがメダルを取りました。

Earthquake Drill/ 地震訓練

On the 21st of this month, we had an earthquake drill! The firefighters taught us how to evacuate and we learned a lot.

去る1月21日、昼休み中に大地震が発生したという想定で地震訓練が行われました。実際に校庭に避難した後、消防士の方から避難の際に気を付けるべきことなど色々教えていただきました。

Christmas Fiesta 2019/ クリスマスフィエスタ ２０１９

This month, we had our annual big event, Christmas Fiesta!! We had lots of great food to eat and prizes to win. Also, we had a great selection of activities organized by the older students, and the elementary students worked hard on their performance in the motif of Queen and rugby!

We hope you will join us again next year!

今月１５日、クリスマスフィエスタが行われました。グラウンドでは様々な種類の食べ物が販売され、ロッタリー（くじ）では豪華な景品に会場は大盛り上がりでした。中高生の各クラスによるアクティビティー（出し物）や、幼稚園生・小学生によるラグビーと"Queen"をモチーフとしたパフォーマンスも無事大成功に終わりました。今回お越しくださった皆様、本当にありがとうございました！来年もお楽しみに～^^
