The grade 7s and 8s had a chess tournament on Wednesday held by Mr. Denard. Congrats to Yoshiharu (1st) and Yuma (2nd) !

Junior/Senior Program Updates- Volleyball Awards

The 2020 season’s CIS Volleyball teams had their awards given out! Mr. McCliggott opened up the events with a small speech that congratulated both teams on their dedication and growth throughout the year. Then Mr. Fleming awarded this year’s award winners. Awards were given to both teams for Spirit, Most Improved and Most Valuable. A lot of emotion was expressed at the end of the event as the 2020 Volleyball season came to an end. A big thank you to all the players, teachers and staff that made this year a successful one. We look forward to the 2021 season.

2020シーズンの男女バレーボールチームの表彰式が行われました。校長先生によるスピーチに始まり、フレミング先生による今年の受賞者の表彰がありました。男女両チームともにSpirit賞、Most Improved賞、Most Valuable賞がそれぞれ授与され、感動的な会で今年のシーズンを終えることができました。今年１年を成功に導いてくれた選手、先生方、スタッフの皆様、本当にありがとうございました。2021年のシーズンも楽しみです！！

In Junior's Japanese class, we had a little calligraphy lesson. They expressed their goals for this year in one kanji character.

G7,８の国語の授業では、少しですが書初めを行いました。今年の目標を漢字一文字で表しました！

We had an earthquake evacuation drill at the school. Natural disasters can happen even in the midst of a global pandemic. The more prepared you are, the better.

先日、地震避難訓練が行われました。コロナ禍においても、災害はいつやってくるかわかりません。備えあれば憂いなし。

Elementary Program Updates

The Elementary had their 12th annual Spelling Bee on Friday, January 29th. There were 11 students competing in the K-3 (Primary) division and all students in Grades 4-6 (Junior) division. The level of spelling was fantastic and all the students did their best to spell the words. We crowned two champions this year; in the K-3 division Yoshiyuki was our winner and our Junior winner was Shonosuke. Shonosuke will be representing Columbia at the Japan Spelling Bee on March 6. Well done spellers and good luck Shonosuke! (Mr.Berry）

１月２９日金曜日、毎年恒例のスペリングビーが開かれました。キンダーから３年生までの部からは１１人の生徒が、４年生から６年生までは全生徒が出場しました。出場者はみんなとてもよく頑張っていました。今年の優勝者はよしゆきとしょうのすけでした。しょうのすけは、コロンビアを代表して３月６日に行われるスペリングビーの大会に出場します。頑張ってね！

Junior/Senior Program Updates

Last day for 2020 was a day filled with festive fun for our juniors and seniors. Although our annual Christmas Fiesta was cancelled due to the pandemic, the student council managed to arrange a mini-Fiesta for the students to enjoy. Kudos, guys! Have a safe and healthy holiday everyone! See you back in 2021!

2020年最後の登校日は、クリスマスの催しが目白押しの一日でした。恒例イベントのクリスマスフィエスタは残念ながら中止となりましたが、生徒会が様々なアクティビティーを用意して校内のクリスマス気分を盛り上げてくれました。健康で安全な冬休みを過ごし、元気に新年を迎えましょう。

Today was the last day of school this year. In the morning, we had an assembly and students who have shown great learning skills and pillars of character were awarded. After that, we all went out to pick up garbage. In the afternoon, we enjoyed an exciting dance party at the big gym. Let's spend this winter vacation paying more attention to health than usual. See you all back in 2021!!!

今日は今年最後の登校日でした。午前中は集会が開かれ、素晴らしいラーニングスキルを示した生徒やピラーズオブキャラクターが表彰されました。集会の後、みんなで毎年恒例のごみ拾いに出かけました。そして午後は、ビッグジムでダンスパーティーを楽しみました。

今年の冬休みは、例年よりもさらに健康に気をつけてすごし、来年もまた元気に会いましょう!!

Junior/Senior Volleyball Highlights 2020

This season like everything else in 2020 was different from other years. The league did not run as normal and we didn’t get to play as many games or have a final tournament. However, we were still able to have a successful season. Both teams practiced hard and I saw a lot of development. And when we had an opportunity to play a game we usually came out on top. The teams ended with identical records 4 wins and 1 loss. Both teams saw a lot of new players come out and join this year and the future looks bright. I want to congratulate both teams on a great season.

異例づくめの2020年の今シーズンのバレボールのハイライトをお送りします！リーグも通常通りに運営できず、試合数も少なく、決勝トーナメントもできませんでしたが、素晴らしいシーズンを過ごすことができました。男女両チームとも練習に励み、多くの成長がありました。そして、試合では両チームとも4勝1敗と優秀な成績を収めることができました。男女ともに今年は多くの新しい選手の活躍がみられ、先々のシーズンも楽しみです。両チームとも素晴らしいシーズン、お疲れ様でした！！！

On October 30th, we attended school wearing orange and black clothes for celebrating Spirit Day. Besides, it was the day before Halloween, so we enjoyed pumpkin carving in the morning. Each grade got one pumpkin and students carved very nicely! In the afternoon, we had an exciting Halloween party at the big gym.

Junior / Senior Updates

It's the spooky time of the year. CIS celebrated a downsized Halloween this year. The students enjoyed pumpkin curving, making haunted mansions, door decoration, and of course, costumes. Have a safe and happy Halloween, everyone!

コロナに負けず、毎年恒例のハロウィンイベントを行いました。コロナ禍でかなり縮小とはなりましたが、生徒たちなりに工夫をして、パンプキンカービング、ホーンテッドマンション制作、ドアデコレーションなどのアクティビティーでハロウィンを盛り上げていました。みなさん、感染に気を付けながら楽しいハロウィンをお過ごしください！

Last week, we had a fun and exciting Sports Day! Although the parents were not able to watch it at school this year, but all K-G6 students worked very hard! Good job everyone!

Today teachers were proud to select one or two students from each class who have shown great learning skills and pillars of character. Students were able to pick a prize as a reward for all of the hard work. Great job Kinder/Elementary! (Mr.Soulliere )

A whole new term has started under the new norm.

The new transparent partitions allowed them to see each other during class and lunch again!!

The grade 7 students went on a nature walk in the area to identify abiotic and biotic factors at the Science class.

G7の生徒たちは、サイエンスの授業でabiotic factors(非生物的環境要因）とBiotic factors(生物的環境要因）を調べに自然の中を散歩に出かけました。

Senior Program Updates

Though it's only been a month since the reopening of the school, the term is quickly approaching an end! The senior students finished their final exams and have only a few days left until the summer holiday. Way to go on your hard work, stay safe, keep your distances and enjoy your summer!

オンライン授業でスタートした春学期は、6月1日の学校校舎の再開から1か月足らずでもう夏休み突入直前となりました。高校生は無事に期末試験を終えました。夏休みも、しっかりとソーシャルディスタンスを意識し、安全に健康に過ごしましょう！

To develop students' reading skill, we lend students English and Japanese books !

Every day some students visit the office to borrow a book.

子どもたちのリーディングスキルを養うため、英語と日本語の本の貸し出しを行っています。

毎日、何人もの生徒がオフィスへ来て、本を借りていきます。

We are learning poems in G7 Japanese class.

Each student wrote a poem of their favourite season, using some expression methods.

In addition to the poem, they drew a picture related to the poem!

G7 Japaneseの授業では、詩を勉強しています。それぞれ、好きな季節の詩を書きました。体言止めや倒置法、擬人法などを使って表現しています。

自分の詩をイメージした絵もかいてもらいました。

Senior Program Updates

For PE class we’ve been making sure to get as much physical activity we can in this time of social distancing. We’ve been playing table tennis and badminton, which helps to keep students away from each other but still lets them work with a partner and compete with other pairs. As the students grow more confident with each time we play, they’ve now become very competitive and are trying hard to beat all the other teams.

体育の授業では、ソーシャルディスタンスを保ちながら、できるだけ体を動かす工夫をしています。卓球やバドミントンで距離をとりつつ、チームワークなどを培う機会を作るようにしています！日々プレイする中で、競争心も芽生え、活発に活動しています。

Elementary Program Updates

On June 1st, our school has finally started. For G1s, it was the second time in their life!

Our school has conducted the online classes since this April. Although students had seen their classmates online everyday, they looked very happy to see their friends and teachers in person.

Let’s have a fun school life together caring about wearing a mask, hand washing and gargling, and social distancing!

6月１日は約２か月ぶりの登校日でした。１年生にとっては人生２度目の登校となりました！

当校では、４月から約２か月にわたりオンライン授業を行なってきました。子どもたちは、毎日オンライン上で顔を合わせていましたが、今回実際に友達や先生に会うことができて、とても嬉しそうでした。

マスクの着用や手洗いうがい、そしてソーシャルディスタンスといった感染対策を忘れずに、みんなで楽しい学校生活を送りましょう！

Junior Program Updates

Welcome back! It was a real pleasure to see all the smiling faces hidden behind the masks as the students returned to school. All your teachers and staff were very proud of the responsible way you adapted to the online learning environment, but we are happy to see you back in the classroom. We missed you. Please continue showing your Columbia Spirit by making sure that we are all safe and healthy at school, by wearing a mask, washing your hands frequently, making sure you are in well ventilated areas, and maintaining a safe physical distance.

おかえりなさい！！マスクで顔は隠れてはいますが、笑顔でみなさんが、学校へ戻ってきてくれてとてもうれしく思います。

教師やスタッフは全員責任をもってしっかりオンライン学習の環境を整えてきましたが、やはり、みなさんと教室で会うことをとてもうれしく感じています。みなさんに会えなくて、寂しかったです。

学校では、マスクをし、こまめに手を洗い、よく換気をし、お互いの距離を保ちながら、みなさんの安全と健康を守るよう引き続き気を付けてください。
