TRIALS

Each team has trials and selection guidelines. Many sports will have trials to ensure that students are placed in a team that best suits their skill level. The trial process will be fair and consistent based on the player’s current skill level. Sport skills develop at different rates for each individual, so the team a player was in last year is not necessarily where they will be placed the following year. Team selections are finalised by coaches and the sports department.

Selections - Our Senior A, Junior A or First Teams are selected on merit, not age. In some sports, junior students are identified in the schools top teams.

COMPETITION DAYS / TRAINING TIMES

For students that play multiple sports in a season, their intentions for tournament week must be disclosed at the start of the season or before the team is selected.

Each team will have at least 1 training per week, some will have 2 depending on the level of competition, coach and venue availability. The school will endeavour to offer students the opportunity to attend preseason fitness and skill sessions as available.

The season in progress has priority with training and games. All other training is secondary if it clashes with a summer or winter code that the student is already competing in, and the student is not to be penalised for this.

SPORTS UNIFORMS

Only 100% correct sports uniforms for your sport are acceptable. Any player incorrectly dressed may not take the court/field.

Uniforms are available to purchase brand-new from the School Office or from the second-hand uniform shop. It depends on the team you have been selected in as to what uniform you wear, so please wait until trials are complete and teams are named before you purchase.

SIGN UP TO BE A
STUDENT COACH

Columba is incredibly lucky and immensely grateful to have a large number of students who put their hand up every year to coach and manage our sports teams. With over 75 students signed up to coach in 2022, the Sports Department is very appreciative of the time, energy, and commitment these students show in their roles as coaches and managers for our teams.

SIGN UP TO BE IN THE
REFEREE / UMPIRE GROUP

Getting involved in refereeing is a great way to stay connected in sport if you are injured or unable to play, and many sports in NZ have some superb developmental pathways where you can take your refereeing to a high level (even to a professional level). Over the year, support will be provided for our referee group to develop your skills, attend coaching clinics when available, and generally feel supported and valued as a student referee for our school.
