One key priority for every Georgia district is meeting the requirements of SB 351 – Protecting Georgia’s Children on Social Media Act, which took effect on July 1.
Key Focus Areas of SB 351:
Adoption of district-wide social media policies
Combating cyberbullying in schools
Promoting responsible digital citizenship
Teachers should be prepared to cover the following 3 lessons in order to fulfil the requirements of SB 351.

The minimum requirements include teachers sharing the video and leading a brief discussion, then have students complete one of the graphic organizers individually or in groups.

Students will not login to the Parent ProTech platform as the lessons are educator led.
Teachers should be prepared to cover their grade-level lesson to fulfill the E-Rate Digital Citizenship Requirements.

The Parent ProTech curriculum is intentionally designed to address standards for online safety and digital citizenship. To support a wide range of instructional needs, each lesson offers built-in flexibility. Educators can provide brief lessons with a video discussion or deepen learning with optional extensions that support core content area standards.
Lessons, resources, and activities can all be downloaded/printed/imported. Videos are only available in the ProTech platform to ensure engagement analytics tracking for the District. When educators complete a lesson, they can log completion, including grade level and number of students completed, in the platform.

Lessons must be marked complete and include grade level and number of students by the educator inside the Parent ProTech platform for the state to record compliance with this law.
Teachers will need to sign off on the Google form below. Once all lessons have been delivered to your school's students, media specialists will ask school admin to sign a school verification form, ensuring that the lessons have been taught to their students.
Media specialists at each school will handle processing of Admin verification forms before turning them into the Instructional Technology department by the deadline.

The district's deadline to teach Digital Citizenship to all students is September 26, 2025.
This is a federal and state requirement for our school district.
In addition to marking COMPLETED within the Parent ProTech platform, we ask that teachers complete the form below to serve as evidence of lesson delivery.
Media Specialists will be able to monitor the form responses and serve as school contacts. This replaces the paper forms for teachers we previously used.
What are the program requirements of SB351?
● Section 2-1. Character Education Program. State law established a requirement for a character education in 1997-1998, expanded the definition of the program in 1999-2000, and expanded it again for the 2025-2026 school year.
● Section 2-2. Online Safety Program. State law separately requires GaDOE to establish a model program for educating students regarding online safety while using the internet.
What are the requirements of the Online Safety Program?
Outlined in SB 351, the state requirements for the Online Safety Program shall include instruction regarding:
○ The social, emotional, and physical effects of social media on users;
○ The effects of social media on the mental health of users, particularly teenagers;
○ The distribution of disinformation and misinformation on social media;
○ How social media influences thoughts and behaviors;
○ The permanency and risks of sharing materials online;
○ How to maintain personal security and identify cyberbullying, predatory behavior, and human trafficking on the internet and social media; and
○ How to report suspicious behavior encountered on the internet and social media to appropriate persons and authorities; and may include information regarding the benefits of social media use, such as supporting career readiness for future academic or employment opportunities, sharing information with familiar family.
Standards Alignment for Secondary Lessons
