Some CEC students may need to take classes directly on the campus of our community college partner, Arapahoe Community College (ACC). Typically this is because there is a class needed for the student's chosen degree or certification that CEC doesn't offer on our campus. Taking "off-campus" classes must be approved by CEC. Here are some things to consider regarding off-campus classes:
CEC does not have access to any of the systems at ACC therefore, students taking off-campus classes have extra responsibilities and must navigate ACC's systems independently.
Staff and faculty at ACC will only speak with the student (FERPA). If a parent needs to speak with someone at ACC regarding the student, the student must be present for the conversation. Students should be able to self-advocate and feel comfortable asking adults at ACC for assistance.
Textbooks for off-campus classes are not provided by CEC. Students must rent/purchase their own textbooks and may submit for reimbursement/book buy-back from CEC, IF they have funds remaining on their voucher.

Students taking classes directly at the ACC campus, must complete a two part orientation before being able to register for classes.
Part 1 is an online video orientation. See instructions below
Part 2 is called "advising and registration." This is either an in-person or virtual group session where students will learn how to register for their ACC off-campus classes. CEC does not register you for your classes! This will be a new responsibility for you. Speak with your CEC advisor to find out when the "advising and registration" sessions will be and how to register. You must do Part 1, the online orientation, prior to attending these sessions.
Here are the instructions for accessing the online video orientation:
The first part of the Student Orientation experience is completed online. To access the online component.
Log in to myACC
Username = S#
(refer to your acceptance email for your ACC Student ID Number: your S#)
Password = StudentMMDDYYYY
(default password is the word "Student" followed by your 8-digit date of birth, in MMDDYYYY format; for example: January 26, 1985, would be entered as Student01261985)
If you need help logging in, contact the 24/7 Helpdesk at 1.888.800.9198 or visit the Login FAQ page.
Click on the Student tab
Click on the link in the Student Orientation section
If you are having trouble finding / accessing the Student Orientation section in myACC, you may need to clear your browser cache. Review the instructions from ACC IT.
You must watch the video in it's entirety and answer questions at the end for your session to be complete.
This is a live meeting that you must sign up for and attend either in-person, or in a group on-line session, facilitated by ACC. Once you complete the online orientation, you must sign up for the Advising and Registration part of the process. Your CEC CR Advisor can give you the dates and times of these sessions and a link to sign up!
When you take classes at ACC, you will need to be very familiar with your myACC student portal. You must log in with your ACC Student ID # (S#) and a password. Save these somewhere that you can easily access them!
Here are some things you will access through the portal:
Your ACC student email account. ACC will only communicate with you through your ACC email account. You need to check this regularly!
Registering for classes or adding or dropping classes (This is always done after consulting with your CEC Academic Advisor!)
Running a Degree Check to see how close you are to finishing your degree plan and what classes you still need
Signing up for tutoring appointments or other appointments with ACC staff
Accessing your Desire to Learn (D2L) account for classroom assignments and communications from your instructors
Accessing the ACC library resources
Student billing (CEC pays for your classes at ACC so most of the time students can ignore the ACC billing notices. However, sometimes students go over their allotted CEC voucher amount. Please speak with your CEC Academic Advisor if you have any concerns)
After you have registered for a class at ACC, you will have access to your ACC student email account through your myACC student portal. Here are some things to know:
Your ACC student email account is generally in the format of firstinitiallastname@student.cccs.edu. Students with the same first initial and last name of another student will also have numbers as part of their email address.
Some students have found when they try to access their ACC email, it will open up their CEC student email account in Outlook. To solve this problem, use a different browser when accessing your myACC student portal. Safari seems to work best.
If you want to have your ACC student emails forwarded to your CEC student email account so you only have one account to check, click here for instructions.
We highly recommend you utilize the tutoring resources at ACC for assistance in your concurrent enrollment college courses. They have tutoring for Math, Writing, Science, Computer Science, Economics, and more. On the webpage linked here - scroll down to find the content area, click on the tile, and then scroll down to find your specific course.
CEC students with IEPS or 504s that utilize accommodations, will need to establish their accommodations for all of their college classes each semester through the Disability Access Services office at ACC. Accommodations at the college level look a little different than in high school. The first two links here provide information, and the third link takes you directly to the intake/application form for ACC Disability Access Services.

Students taking classes "off-campus" at ACC (or online classes through ACC) must rent or purchase any required textbooks for their classes. (BUT-do check with our CEC CR Bookroom to see if we have copies of required books first!) Students can find out which books they need for their class through the ACC Bookstore. Books can be rented or purchased through the ACC bookstore, but sometimes books can be found at a reduced cost through Directtextbook.com or other online resources. If you are a full time CEC student, and have funds remaining in your voucher at the end of the school year, you can submit a reimbursement form and your receipt for the ACC textbook to be reimbursed in a buy-back program by CEC for the cost of the book(s). If CEC provides payment for the textbook, the student will turn the book in when they are done with the course to the CEC bookroom. Click here for our textbook reimbursement policy and reimbursement request form.
FERPA stands for the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act. It provides students with privacy of their student record upon turning 18, or upon enrolling in college classes at any age. As a result of FERPA, colleges are not able to share information about a student’s record with anyone other than the student without a FERPA waiver on file.
This means parents may not call ACC on behalf of their student or discuss a student's grade or academic performance with instructors. Parents won't have access to the student's portal or grade reports.
If your student would like to waive their FERPA rights, they may complete this form. The form requests a driver's license or state id, but ACC has told us they will accept a student's school photo id, if they don't have a driver's license.
Students who complete a degree or certificate program through ACC will submit a graduation application on the ACC website, and may participate in the ACC graduation ceremony, if they choose. ACC confers all degrees and certificates earned through ACC. (This does not apply to students who have earned certificates on the CEC Castle Rock campus). Speak with your advisor about when to apply for ACC graduation. Here is the link to the graduation page on the ACC website. ACC's graduation ceremony is separate from CEC Castle Rock's graduation ceremony, and they also require their own regalia.
