From its founding in 2005, Farfel’s has been Boulder’s go-to spot for pet lovers seeking quality and ethical products. The store carries a variety of goods: collars, leashes, harnesses, toys, natural premium food, and more. But the boutique is more than retail — it’s intimately tied to Farfel’s Rescue, which became part of the mission in 2011.
One of their guiding philosophies is that rescue animals should never feel like they’re being warehoused. Therefore, all adoptable dogs are in foster homes — they’re never housed in the store itself. When visitors come by, they can browse, meet staff, shop, and learn, but adoption meets are generally arranged via foster care settings rather than an on-site kennel.
Farfel’s Rescue focuses heavily on dogs in “urgent” situations — often in high-kill shelters across multiple southern states. Those rescued undergo medical care, temperament testing, vaccinations, and spay/neuter (when possible).
Once rescued, these dogs are transported to Colorado and placed in foster homes while awaiting adoption. The rescue makes sure that medical needs are met — even surgeries or treatments for chronic issues — with 100% of donations going directly to animal care.
Because of their selective, rigorous approach, Farfel’s emphasizes that adoption is a two-way match. They want to ensure the dog and adopter are well suited to each other.
Over the years, Farfel’s has helped hundreds of dogs escape dire circumstances and begin new lives.
Still, it’s not always easy. With resource constraints, high demand, and logistical challenges of transporting and caring for vulnerable animals, the rescue must maintain high standards to fulfill its mission sustainably. That is why they can use every hand they can get! Apply to adopt or volunteer with Farfel's here
