Our goals as a working group center around building data resources for arctic infrastructure research, connecting stakeholders in sustainable arctic infrastructure design, and meeting community needs through best practices in education and investment in infrastructure.
RCN: Co-creating Research for Just Arctic Future Infrastructure Transformations, Resilience, and Adaptation (CRAFT) project funded by the National Science Foundation (award # 2419971) unites Arctic researchers and Indigenous community members, especially from the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta Region, to identify challenges and best practices for co-producing localized, theoretically grounded knowledge on Arctic infrastructure. Through a transdisciplinary approach inclusive of diverse perspectives, the project aims to formulate locally relevant questions on just infrastructure by: (1) Mapping existing expertise across academia, Indigenous communities, and stakeholders to explore inclusive infrastructure planning and adaptation to climate impacts; (2) Identifying areas for knowledge convergence on various infrastructure forms; and (3) Establishing a sustainable expert network for decision-making and research on critical infrastructure planning and maintenance. Additionally, the project will begin developing a knowledge platform to aid decision-makers in advancing equitable, just infrastructure solutions while offering learning opportunities for Indigenous knowledge holders and early-career scholars involved in all stages of the research.
