A leaf (leaves in plural) is the part of a plant where water and minerals are tranformed into food for the plant. This process is called PHOTOSYNTHESIS .
There are many types of leaves and there are many ways to classify them:
According to the shape
According to the veins
According to the margins
According to the color
...
We are going to classify them according to the edges...
For us we are going to make 7 groups:
Entire: The margins of these leaves are smooth.
Ondulate (or sinuate): The margins of these leaves look like waves.
Serrate: The margins of these leaves look like a saw. A saw is that machine you use to cut wood or iron.
Lobed: The margins of these leaves are similar to the ondulate ones but with much bigger waves.
Spiny: The margins of these leaves have little thorns.
Crenate: The margins of these leaves look like several circles one close to each other.
Palmate: The margins of these leaves look like several leaves together.
