The CBNA Jazz Ensemble is our opportunity at Coe-Brown to learn about one of our nations biggest cultural contributions: Jazz Music. Jazz Ensemble is the highest level group we offer in the Band Program and our students main focus is to learn how to swing, improvise, and interpret the many styles that stretch jazz history. Our group rehearses every Monday after school until 3:45pm and rehearses additionally leading up to performances. Auditions are required on a case by case basis.
The 2023-24 Jazz Ensemble earned an "Honorable Mention," at the Clark Terry UNH Jazz Festival and "Outstanding Trumpet Section," for the second year in a row. Our students were able to watch amazing performances from schools across the northeast but the highlight was watching trumpeter Sean Jones and saxophonist/vocalist Camille Thurman perform in the evening gala!
The 2022-2023 CBNA Jazz Ensemble had a terrific year! In March 2023 the Jazz Ensemble performed at the Clark Terry Jazz Festival for the first time in school history and our trumpet section earned Outstanding Trumpet Section in their division. The students had a ton of fun getting better musically and connecting as a group. We even had a pumpkin carving session, complete with the movie It's the Great Pumkin, Charlie Brown playing in the background!
The 2021-2022 was a great year for the CBNA Jazz Ensemble. We had guest educator Dr. Nate Jorgenson conduct a clinic, went to the University of New Hampshire to watch a tribute concert of tenor saxohonist Michael Brecker, and competed at Music in the Parks Six Flags New England winning 1st Place in our Division and Best Group Overall!
The CBNA Jazz Ensemble attended the UNH Clark Terry Jazz Festival on March 10th 2019. This festival has been held at the University of New Hampshire for over 40 years and brings over 60 schools to perform and compete. The day is full of workshops and performances by special guest artists and the UNH Big Band. Look for us to compete and be adjudicated in 2021!
