Middle School academic program guide
MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAM OF STUDY
Middle School is a time of important growth for students who are developing important habits, skills, knowledge, and self-awareness. Our Middle School program strives to challenge students in new ways in order to help them take developmentally appropriate steps toward adulthood. All students participate in a combination of Core Academics and Electives.
Core Academics
Humanities, Math, Science, Español or Spanish as a New Language, Sociales de Colombia, Physical Education (Health, Dance, and P.E.), and Band or Choir.
Electives Grade 6
In alignment with the exploratory nature of middle school, students will have the opportunity to enhance their learning by choosing a quarter of foreign language course (French or Mandarin), a quarter of an art elective course (studio art or drama). Students will also be required to take a quarter of a design thinking course and a quarter of health. Please note that students eligible for Exceptional Learner programs such as IDEA or Learning Lab will be contacted by the Exceptional Learning Department for scheduling information.
Electives Grades 7-8
In alignment with the exploratory nature of middle school, students will have the opportunity to enhance their learning by choosing either a year-long foreign language course (French or Mandarin) or a combination of a semester of Arts and a semester of STEM electives. Please note that students eligible for Exceptional Learner programs such as IDEA or Learning Lab will be contacted by the Exceptional Learning Department for scheduling information.
Advisory
Upon enrollment, all students will be assigned an advisory class based on the house system that CNG students are placed in. Advisory class meets each day for 30 minutes and serves as the base of our character and social-emotional learning program for middle school.
