NC Elementary Honors Chorus

NOTE: 2020 Honors Chorus Information will be available in Fall 2020.

The North Carolina Elementary Honors Chorus is a select group of 4th and 5th grade singers from across the state. The group performs at the NC Music Educators Conference in November in Winston-Salem, NC. Each school may submit up to 6 recordings per school. Please read below for more information regarding the chorus and audition procedures. Dr. Dancy will have rehearsals to teach the required audition piece and then have auditions to narrow down the students to six (if needed). Audition materials must be submitted by September along with the audition fee. I will communicate more information closer to the deadline. Of course contact me with any questions!

The North Carolina Elementary Honors Chorus is a group of approximately 195 students who are chosen from across North Carolina to perform at the NCMEA Conference each year. The purpose of this Honors Chorus is to provide students with the opportunity to develop their abilities to the greatest possible extent. Teachers who are members of NCMEA are permitted to send in auditions from six of their students. Adjudicators are hired to select the members of the Honors Chorus. Teachers then work with their students in preparation for the concert and students spend the day before the concert working with the clinician. Participating in the North Carolina Elementary Honors Chorus is very rewarding for teachers, students and their families.

Eligibility: Only 4th and 5th graders may participate in elementary honors chorus. NO MORE THAN 6 STUDENTS PER SCHOOL. Auditions are recorded and submitted for review. Each student must pay $12 to submit an audition recording.

Accompaniment: Use the accompaniment provided and as written from the website to make the judging process consistent. Teachers may not play or sing the student part or help the student in any way. Follow the tempo and dynamic markings as indicated in the audition piece. Students will be disqualified if the given accompaniment is not used or if the recording has been altered in any way.

Recording: Submit ONE mp3 file per student for each student auditioning and no more than six auditions per school.
