Let me introduce myself. I am married and have 2 children. I was born in Belgium,not France, and grew up in Mons, a little town in the centre of the country. In college, I studied Roman languages (mainly French and Spanish) and earned a bachelor degree In French and Spanish literature and a certificate to teach French as a foreign language. My first job was at the International School of Brussels where I have taught for 4 years as a social studies and French teacher in grades 6-8. I came to the States in 1994 and have worked in the French Immersion Program since then. I earned my National Board in 2003 and became a PDMT teacher (Professional Development Master Teacher) in 2008. I love teaching and cannot imagine doing anything else.

5th grade is a challenging year. In May, the students will take the End of Grade Tests in Math, English Language arts and science. They have to score at a level 3 (at grade level), 4 (above grade level) or 5 (above grade level) in order to be promoted to 6 grade.

I truly believe that a child's success depends on the collaboration between home and school, therefore communication with parents/guardians is one of my main priorities. I hope that this site will help me reach that goal and that it will help you stay updated about the events happening in our class.

Attendance (Only when face to face)

Attendance in 5th grade is CRITICAL. Every day counts! It is difficult for a student to catch up when he/she has been absent. Late arrivals and early dismissals are a problem as well. Please consider taking your child to doctor's appointment after school or on teacher workdays.

If your child is sick, late or early dismissal, please notify the office and me:

I check my e-mails twice a day: early in the morning (7:30 AM) and at the end of the school day (3:30 PM). I do not have time to check my e-mail during the day. If you have an important message for your child (like transportation changes) please contact the office.

1 12" plastic ruler with one side in inches and one side in centimeters

1 pair of scissors

1 plastic notebook pencil holder or a pencil box

2 each red, blue, green, yellow plastic pocket folder with prongs

We will get organized on the first or second day of school.

Communication (Only when face to face)

On Mondays, each student will receive a communication folder in which you will find:

1. Literature notes from school and from me. A plan of the week that is yours to keep.

2. Graded quizzes, tests, projects, assignments. Please return them by Tuesday in the folder so I can file them. They need to be signed by parents.

The communication folder will go home on Monday and needs to be returned on Tuesday. If it is not returned by Wednesday, the student will have silent lunch!

Grades: Please check Power School on a regular basis to stay updated regarding your child performance. If you do not have an account, contact Ann Hardy, the registrar secretary.
