What did I miss?

Here is what to do when you're thinking:

I was absent…

WHAT DID I MISS?

I usually exempt students from homework and classroom activities due to absences - up to 5!

I require students to make up the notes (for portfolio completion), warm-ups (10 days = 10 points; no "freebies"), major projects, quizzes, and tests.

To make up the notes ("Unit Portfolio"):

You need the date, objective, notes, and "proof of mastery" (could be an exercise from the book). You can complete your portfolio by doing 1, 2, or 3 below, followed by 4.

  1. Borrow notes from a trusted partner or friend in the class –OR–
  2. See me by appointment before 7:00 am or after 2:15 pm (not during school hours) –OR–
  3. A) Use the calendar (posted in room and on website) to see the topic/page # of missed day

B) Copy the grammar explanation and/or vocabulary from the book to serve as your notes, and

C) Choose and complete any of the corresponding exercises in context (write the question, underline the answer) –AND ALWAYS-

4. SHOW ME YOUR MAKE-UP NOTES so that I can sign them (worth 8 out of 10 points. Your grade would be a B rather than an A due to lack of participation).

The only way to receive 100% (10/10 points = stamp) for a day not attended is to copy all unit vocab (Spanish and English) following your make-up notes for each day absent. Your extra effort to stay in touch with the curriculum will compensate for that day’s lack of active class participation and engagement.

NOTE: Every day is worth 10 points. Attendance + complete notes = 6/10. Attendance + complete notes + correctly done class work + participation = 10/10 (stamp).Overall mastery = 8/10 (my signature).Daily scores are recorded in your composition notebook.

Every day must have a date and an objective.

To make up the warm-ups:

  1. Borrow warm-ups from a trusted partner or friend in the class –OR–
  2. See me before 7:00 am or after 2:15 pm (not during school hours) –OR–

A) Use the calendar (posted in room and on website) to see the topic/page # of missed day, and

B) Choose and complete any 3 problems in context from the previous day’s topic (a warm-up is always a review of the previous day).

C) Write, "Absent," so that I know why your warm-ups are different from everyone else's.

To make up quizzes and tests:

  1. See me by appointment before 7:00 am or after 2:15 pm (Note: Tests must be taken on a Monday after school; they take longer and must be taken in one sitting) –OR–
  2. Take make-up quizzes on test days when you finish your test. Please remind me the day before by posting me a sticky note in your class's "Question Park" so that I can have it ready for you.
