Equity and Inclusion as Ongoing School Culture: Diversity is Celebrated at Piedmont IB and Part of Our History

Equity: We support racial, ethnic and socio-economic integration. Each classroom is a microcosm of our student body and our educators demonstrate a commitment to teaching in a diverse setting.

In fact, many teachers seek us out specifically for our diversity and academic excellence, which is also what we hear most of our families appreciate as well. Our graduates even come back to let us know our inclusive atmosphere is rare. Sometimes they come back to teach and to bring their children.

Our test scores show that racial privilege and money is not what makes a school great. Diversity and heart are.

Our magnet was one of the first two magnet schools opened in the city of Charlotte and has always had a diverse student body that represents our district and cuts across lines of race and socioeconomics, religion, creed, and neurotype.

Before her death, Holocaust Survivor and Piedmont Grandparent shows Piedmont students her tattoo from Auschwitz. When a Piedmont student asked why she did not have it removed, Dr. Spatz replied, "Why would I want to remove it?"
