How Classes from CPCC Transfer to the UNC System?
Grade Suppression
CMS does all grade suppression on the high school transcript. This is for failed courses only.
If a student fails a course at CPCC and then takes it a 2nd time...
CPCC: Both grades appear on the transcript. The higher grade is used in the GPA calculation.
CMS: The first failing grade is suppressed and not seen on the transcript and is excluded from the GPA calculation. The 2nd grade is listed and used in the GPA calculation. This is a manual process. You will have to tell the registrar to grade suppress the first grade.
If a student passes a CPCC class (say with a D), and retakes it (a good reason to retake is they may need a minimum grade of C as pre-requisite for another class, or they may want to retake to earn a C for transfer credit).
CPCC: Both grades appear on the transcript. The higher grade is used in the GPA calculation.
CMS: The first grade is on the transcript and used in the GPA calculation because the course was not failed. The 2nd grade is on the transcript and NOT used in the GPA calculation - even if it was higher.
Bottom line....CMS only allows grade suppression for failed courses.
