Extensions Program Transition Syllabus
Objectives:
Following CMS Transition curriculum students work on functional skills to improve independent living, social skills, and vocational skills in the school and community.
Improving outcomes of each students IEP goals and independent functioning.
The Curriculum:
The Transition curriculum has been developed by CMS for students following the Extensions of the North Carolina Common Core. The 2023-24school year curriculum focuses on
o Community Living
o Employment
o Housing (taught by Mr. Wisor)
o Health & Fitness (taught by Mr. Wisor)
JOB READINESS SKILLS are an additional component students will work on throughout the year as they prepare for life after high school. These skills include the following:
●Critical thinking
●Time management
●Following a schedule
●Self advocacy
●Communication
●Problem solving
●Team work
●Stamina
●Interpersonal skills
●Thoroughness
●Showing initiative
Functional:
Personal living and Life Skills will embody all of those skills and lessons focusing on independent living skills.

Safety
Laundry, dishes and general cleaning
Hygiene
Job skills
Transportation skills
Appropriate social skills/interactions and relationships
Grading:
CMS has transitioned to a 10-point grading scale and the breakdown for how that is calculated can be found below.
Formal assignments: tests, quizzes and projects- 60%
Informal: daily classwork, homework and independent work– 40%
IEP Goals and Functional Skills
As stated previously, IEP goals and functional skills will be embedded in lessons each day. We will also be using two main online resources News-2-you and Unique Learning Systems. Each of these will incorporate content from all core subject areas while exploring current events around the world.
